Passenger side air bag light help

Hello everyone.First post here. I have an 08 Rogue SL with 45K on it. A couple of weeks ago the air bag light started flashing and the passenger side air bag indicator light on the center console became illuminated. Had trouble code B1018 (OCS sensor malfunction) read. Passenger side lower seat assembly needs to be replaced. $1445 job. Contacted local dealer. They suggested calling Nissan. Which I did. After two weeks they called back and agreed to cover half of the cost to repair. I am surprised that they would even cover that much. Than I found that Nissan has a voluntary recall (NTB08-95c) covering this issue. But of course my VIN does not fall in the range of covered vehicles. Seems to me that if they know they have an issue with a certain model and safety system, that they all should be covered. I called National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and filed a complaint. We'll see how far that goes.
My question is, without having to have pay Nissan $750 for they repair, what are my options? Salvage? By-pass? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
