Post

In a prior post I reported that I had successfully changed out the 4 nitrogen strut accumulators on my 1994 Q45active.

Today I was inspecting under the wheel arches and noticed that at least two of the struts seem to be leaking fluid from the top and running done the strut piston . The fluid is yellow / brown in color and not green like the active fluid. I am 99% sure there was no leak before changing the strut accumulators

HELP!!!!!!

Leaking struts seals don't get solved by repressurization of the damping.Check your active fluid level and keep replenishing, it may be a function of temperature or renewed use after the repressurization allowed the system to begin to function........might go away after some use ????????????????........run a few gallons of fluid before deciding to change the whole struts out. Bleed the strut tops to remove air and flush some fluid............perfectly new ........more likely the used brownish yellow........from seal deterioration/oxidation.

Thank you very much for the advice. Since last weekend when I changed the strut accumulators the ambient temperature up here in the Buffalo area has dropped from about 50F to 25F so I hope this is part of the issue.

One strange thing was when I was changing the accumulators after bleeding out the fluid at the rear of the car, no fluid bled out of the strut top bleed nipples. There was clearly no pressure there.

The active fluid level so far is still at the high mark on the dip stick so it is obviously not leaking badly.

Dumb question but is fluid in the strut itself the active fluid or is it separately assembled and has its own fluid, hence the yellow / brown color?
