I didn't think this really fit in with the MACCO thread, so I posted it separately. Anyone else heard of this stuff before? Seems interesting...

Paint film type thing

yeah I saw a commercial for something like this on TV earlier this week. It had some "auto painting" robots or whatever in some assembly line, and they werent doing any work. Something like that. From what I got from the commercial, companies are thinking of using colored plastic-ey type body panels, so that even if they're scratched, it wont lose "paint." (think about it: if you cut a lego, it wont show a different color underneath... least not the ones I had)

I donno. Only problem I see is what if you wanna change the color of your car? Either its gonna be crazy loot or you have to replace all the body panels (also crazy loot I'd imagine). Oh well, gotta wait and see.

saturn still paints their panels...

I know because the factory messed up the paint job on my dads 2000 LS2 V-6 and its peeling on the front bumper.

I know you all are talking about like the stock paint, but what if you wanted a custom paint job? Then there goes the whole plastic thing, oh well.
