Looking for some clarification on the subject issue. I can’t find much on this code for Pathfinders with manual transmission. Where is the PNP switch and what does it look like? All I can find are neutral safety switch discussions. It starts and runs perfect, just wont pass emissions with this code. I’m under the impression that it wont start at all, or will start in any gear if the switch is bad. If so, what could be going on here? Appreciate any insight.

Same fault code P1706 for the park/neutral position switch, found only on automatic models, and the neutral position switch, found only on manual models. Different switch, different location, same fault code. Your neutral position switch is located on the right side of the transmission toward the back end. Here's a Nissan Parts Deal page with a few diagrams to show you where it is. >>> https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts-l ... pnc=32006M The part number is either 32006-23U6A or 32006-32G2A depending on your model options. You can plug in your VIN at Nissan Parts Deal to be sure of the right part for your '01. Before replacing anything, I would first check the connector plug to this switch to be sure the contacts are clean, dry, and not corroded. It gets very messy back there from water and dirt kicked up off the road. It might be just poor contact in the plug.

You should also test the switch contact pins for continuity. Its a simple mechanical switch with two pins. Shift the transmission into neutral to close the switch. Unplug the switch and check that it has continuity across the two pins using a multimeter. There should be no continuity while the switch is open when shifted into any gear position. Replace the switch if it has continuity across the pins while in any of the gear positions or if there is no continuity when shifted in the neutral position.
