Hi,SES light came on so I OBDII it and got 1140, replaces sensor, then pulled 1110 so I changed the control solenoid. After driving for 10+ minutes on highway I get P1110 again. I've searched through some of the responses, but I haven't seen any adjustment that might control this. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Thanks for the reply.Replaced both Intake control valve position sensor (P1140) and the Intake valve control solenoid (P1110). Both on right bank, per the codes.

P1110 is for the left bank.

Thanks, But according to Chilton and Nissan, P1110 is the right bank (passenger side). I don't think they are they interchangeable?

no they are different due to mounting /connector positioning.

When you say nissan where did you get the info from?

I gave the code to Southpoint Nissan and they told me it was the correct bank (Passenger). Do you believe it might be the wrong side?

well I would think that article I linked you to would be right, But I will research to be sure as it may very well be wrong, but regardless the 2 codes you mentioned are for opposing banks.

Hi,Were you able to ascertain whether P1110 is Left or Right (driver or passenger)? I appreciate your help, and I'm up against the wall (state inspection) and would like to put the SES light out for good.

Thanks

Your books are correct our article is incorrect, both codes are for the right bank. Lets get this clear,

You have replaced both the timing sensor and the solonoid for that bank? Your light when you try to clear it it just comes right back on when you start the car without driving it?

If you anwser yes to both questions there is one other incedent I have seen but only once and it was due to a tech improperly testing the circuit, he shoved a paper clip into the timing sensor connector expanding the terminal in the connector so it didnt make good contact with the terminal in the sensor. So pull the connecotr off and look in the terminals of the connector, do any of the whole look round or expanded at all? Also look for any moisture in the terminal area of the sensor [have seen that cause problems on the crank and cam sensors on the sentra, same kind of sensor]

Thanks,The code pops on the OBD unit after driving for about 5-10 minutes. The light comes on later, but driving with the unit attached I can see the unit throwing the code under acceleration. I can sit at idle and I don't think it would ever come on.

ok then its likely not the sensor, its more likely the solonoid. Its not leaking or anything right? theres no restriction in the oil passages? If this solonoid is correct you could have a rare case were the code is actually showing a failure in which is was intended to throw. That code was designed to show when the VTC sprocket is not advancing as it should, unfortunitly the most common failures that have been kicking the light on are due to the other parts not functioning as they were expected to. So in essence You may actually have a failing VTC sprocket [never seen it happen on a pathfinder yet though. There is a test proceedure for checking the VTC. It is a bit complecated and required removing part of the front cover and the chain that drives both cams. Before you dive into that ,really look over the connection to the solonoid and the passages ,gasket alignment on the solonoid to be sure it can electrically work and can easily flow fluid when turned on.

You've been great! I'll bench test the solenoid when my wife gets home and will let you know one way or another.

Thanks
