So if CVT is a transmission that is always at the most efficient gear why have overdrive?

Am i missing something here?

With the overdrive button in the off position you can utilize the engine brake and slow the vehicle down without using the brakes. Also with the overdrive in the on position you get lower rpms than if it was left out.

Engine braking occurs even with OD off... I believe the OD button is intended for those super steep hills..
