89 KA24E (Hoses and radiator replaced 10,000 miles ago)

Okay, so two weeks ago I went for a long drive for a mini fishing trip and my water pump gasket blew. I had a friend that didnt live to far away so I drove the car a couple miles stopped and refilled coolant (drove a total of 8 miles). The gasket was close to completely shot so it was leaking bad. After getting a new Bosch water pump and replacing the old one it seemed to run fine. The temp gauge sits directly in the middle and stays there for about 5 to 10 miles of driving. Then all of a sudden it shoots up... I did a little research and found that I was maybe supposed to change the thermostat when I changed the water pump but I just replaced it about 3 years ago. I bled the system 5 times now, jacked up, bleeder valve open until I got a steady stream out of it. Both hoses are hot, no smoke or white in the radiator. I changed the oil when I did the water pump and it looked clean. What the hell could it be?????????

Could be a clogged line going to the overflow. Check for debris between the rad and AC condenser. Thermostat could be bad. Did you bleed it with the heater on full blast and on defrost?

yeah, turn on the heater when you burp/bleed the air out. You still have air in the system. Also, jack up the front high. I've done a few water pumps and it can be a PITA to get all the air out.

You need to bleed it.

Jack the front of the car up front tires off the ground 4-6 inches.
Take off radiator cap
Take a 2 liter pepsi bottle cut it in half and use some black electrical tape and wrap the bottle neck a little, or get a cooling funnel
Flip it around and place the bottle neck were the radiator cap was at. Pinch off over flow line if not using the funnel.
Now start filling it with coolant about half way
Remove bleeder screw
Close bleed screw after you get a nice even stream of coolant
Squeeze the upper, and lower lined and burp out the air
Add antifreeze until you over fill the rad by a quart
Turn the heat on full blast
Start the engine and let the engine run after 3-10 minutes the thermostat will open and suck in the excess antifreeze (ambient temp affects time)
Fill it again but with about a half of quart.
Let it run until no more bubbles come out. Squeeze hosed time to time.
Replace cap, unclamp overflow hose and then shut off the engine, fill over flow 1/2 to 3/4

Coolant funnel (best to have)
