Does anyone know which nissan/infinity transmissions will bolt up to a 1990-91 VH45DE. I was thinking of doing a swap of the engine to a 240sx and wanted to see which transmissions will match up. Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know, there is no other trans. that will match up w/ the VH45DE. This engine was only offered w/ the 4 speed auto.

Your only option would be a custom install.

You might be able to put the new 5 speed auto from the VK45DE. But it would need the electronics to control it.

If you find out that there is a manual trans. for the VH45DE, please let us know.

2 words - Custom bellhousing.

2 more words - Expensive fabrication.

Email member Sopdadope as he has done extensive research on this project.

I was under the impression that the main body of the transmission is identical between the 90 300zx automatic and 90 q45, hower the bells would probably be different.

I think they're the same transmission. Which doesn't help our friend with his efforts...

the j30 and NA z32 use the 1a auto transmission, same bellhousing and everything.

The TT and Q use the 3a auto gearbox, not sure about the bell, but IN japan, the J30 used the 3a with the VH41 engine option, so my guess is that the bell is the same for all 3 cars.

Thus, there is definitley a way to do this, without any custom parts, besides transmission mounts and a custom driveshaft.

z32 300zx manual trannys are all identical, besides some flywheel issues, and that would be an option as well.

Yes, the Q and the TT share the same auto trans. But that doesn't mean the bellhousings are the same.

The engines are different and therefore the patterns are different.

So that still means some type of adapter plate or custom bellhousing will have to be made.

yep, did some more research, bellhousings are significantly different, but doesnt mean they cant be swapped. (on the autos)

too bad the manual gear boxes are integrally cast with the bellhousings, no bolt-on solution....would be nearly impossible to make it work, one expensive fab would lead to another.

i heard that there was a tiptronic transmission available in the JDM for the VH41 line, but i have been unable to secure any more information than that.
