84 4x4 720 z24 carb , want to change the oil pan gasket and was wondering if yall found a quick n painless way to do it ? :bs:

front diff is in the way so was thinking , undo the motor mounts and jack the motor up some how via the transmission or a wooden block on the fan belt pulleys ?? orrrr clean oil pan and cake on the rtv sealer or a few tubes of it <------ last choice

I still haven't seen any of the 4x4 guys give a distinct answer to this one. I have a decent write up on how to do it for the 2wd guys, but there's no axle in the way :/

I can easily take out and put back my motor in a day. I have had practice unfortunately. Just never forget the ground wire to the frame I destroyed one really quick once.

Get an engine jack and a friend and a basic set of mechanics tools and get it out... clean the crap out of the motor and bay while you are at it, freshen up the gaskets, put it back, finish 12pack while filling up the coolant. run it and check for leaks, goto bed.

you can go a couple ways. on mine, I take off the three collector bolts, and yes there will be alot of pb blaster. but technically you could take of the manifold a rope it to the side enough to move out the motor, but to do this you will have to take of the bolt off the exhaust in front of the cat from its bracket.

I'd rather taker off 1 bolt and 2 nuts than like 8-10 bolts.

If you have access to a hoist it should be a fun weekend project that when finished should have you driving leak free for a while.

DO NOT FORGET...if you have time to replace the rear main seal, DO IT....its like a $10 seal that is a pain in the a** if it leaks. plus it take like 20secs to replace when the motor is out.
