Yesterday my wife has the Q out. She pulls into the bank parking lot, goes in, does what she has to do. She gets back in the car (91 Q45) and it will not start. It acts as if it ran out of gas, we put gas in it, still won't start. Get it towed home, squirt starting fluid up thru the breather, it starts then cuts off.

Does this sounds like the fuel pump??

The current fuel pump has maybe 5000 miles (if that) on it since installed. The original was replaced with one from Infiniti of Scottsdale in March.

New fuel filter at the same time also?

If the other pump was running loud (thus under load) for a long time, the controller unit could be fried. Do a search on where to look on it for singed solder connections and resistors.

yes, fuel filter was replaced at the same time the pump was. And the pump was making no noise that I know of. I drove the car the day before and it was quite as could be. I learned to listen when the last one went.

But the pump does prime for a few seconds at first, right? The engine might actually have been flooded. If the pump works try mashing the pedal to the floor while you crank it--this will shut off the injectors temporarily.
