How much do you save if you do your own oil change?

It depends on what oil/filter you buy. You can go cheapo and use a 5qt jug of SuperTech 5W-30 (which isn't really that bad - it's bottled by either Warren Performance Products or Exxon-Mobil, depending on your region) and a SuperTech ST7317 filter (which also isn't absolutely horribly constructed - see one cut open) for about $13-14.

If you buy a jug of Pennzoil Yellow Bottle 5W-30 for about $16 from Wal-Mart then go get a Purolator PureONE oil filter for about $5 at any auto parts store (W-M doesn't sell them), it's about $21. Both are very good quality for their price. You can see a virgin oil analysis of PYB 5W-30 here, and a PL14610 filter cut open here.

Quite a bit if you are as cheap as I am. Watch for sales on oil.

I only keep it for 3k miles then out it goes. Any decent quality sm 5w-30 is fine.

I've been doing my own for 30+ years, so don't know how much I save cause don't know what they charge.
But, waaaaay back in the day I had my oil changed by somebody that stripped the threads and I lost 3 quarts of oil on a trip to the beach!! Luckily, I did check my oil half way back and kept putting more oil in....no harm done, BUT, from then on I've been doing all of my own oil changes. Have heard of other similar horror stories too.
So, yes, you will save some money!!!
(my saved money goes for more tools....Telcoman's goes to his 401K)
But, more importantly you KNOW who did the work!!! :yesnod

My oil changes with Mobil 1 Syn and OEM filter is around $25 to $30 depending on how cheap I can find a 5 quart jug.

I also maintain 5 cars - however, my oldest son long since moved out, but still comes by for oil changes...he does bring his own oil/filter.

Once you have applied the saved money toward your new collection of tools, you can then move on to doing your own brakes and saving even more $$$$!!! :yesnod

Yep, for the G35 I'm right at $30 ($25 for M1 oil at Walmart + OEM filter). Dealership charges around $70. So I'm saving $35-$40 each time.
