A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I have a 2000 Nissan Sentra and the service engine light has been on for about three years now. The first time i got it checked (two year ago) they said it was the oxygen sensor but that it would not really effect anything since it just came on. Recently, it has started cutting off from time to time usually when i am stopped at a light or am going very slow. Today, it started accelerating very slowly and when i put it in it park and sat for a min it cut off. I recently took it to the shop and they hooked it up and the code for the oxygen sensor came back. I just want to make sure this is really the problem before I buy the two oxygen sensors they say i need. Please advise

Welcome to NICO!

Yes oxygen sensors make a huge difference on the performance of your car to include gas mileage and normal day to day driving. I would highly suggest you have them changed or at least change them yourself.

Can this foul the sparkplugs with gasoline? Can it make the car not start at all? I have a 95 Nissan Sentra. At one point it was also put on a computer that said it was the O2 sensor, then it got better, now it won't start at all.

Has the engine light continued to be on? Does the starter turn? Does the fuel pump prime (a whine if you turn the key to "on" without starting the engine)?
