This 1999 I30 purchase is turning out to possibly be more than I thought it would be..

1) Purchased the car last Saturday.

2) Owner indicated it had a bad ECM as diagnosed by Infiniti dealer.

3) The Infiniti dealer wanted to charge $900 for a new ECM. The owner didn't want to spend the money on it so she listed it on Craig's list. I bought it for $300.

4) So I bought an ECM from a 1999 model Maxima automatic at the Pick-and-Pull.

5) Next I Installed the replacement ECM. I thought something was wrong after I installed the replacement ECM when the ECUTalk handheld could not connect on the OBD1 port.

6) I had it towed to the dealer today to get the ECM and keys reprogrammed for $115.

7) Dealer called to report that consult cannot communicate with the car. It just doesn't respond. Dealer called for approval to spend 3 hours total to try to find the problem. The service tech sounded really concerned about the ECM failing to respond. He said even after trying to start the car, no connection could be established by Consult.

My weekend tests showed good fuel pressure 42 (high) and 34 (low). The fuel pump and FPCM appear to be working.

Any ideas?

first the car is OBDII not OBDI

Compare the old ECM with the new ECM, do all of the numbers match up?

GOOD NEWS! :)

The dealer called this morning to say they removed and then reinstalled the 99 Maxima ECM and then Consult was able to connect. They completed the NATS reprogramming job this morning for the quoted $115.

So on that bit of good news, I had them go ahead and set the timing, TPS, IACV, and anything else to factory specs.

This VQ30DE just purrs like a kitten..

The transmission shifts great.

I really like the Nissan service department.
