Hey gang,

First post! Alright, here's the deal. I've got a friend in an S14 with a red top SR20DET...he's a bit of a novice when it comes to tuning, and just raised the boost without addressing fueling, resulting in a hole in a piston. Now, I've been contracted to rebuild his engine. I don't know Nissans, but I've built a couple engines before (mostly European stuff).

So...the owner of the car is looking for a reliable, daily driven 350-400 crank HP. From the looks of things, this isn't a very extreme build. But not knowing Nissans, I'm not sure what parts I need, or who the best vendors are. I need to put together a shopping list of parts, and that's where I need your help!

I'm trying to keep the budget under control, and I'd prefer NOT to ask him to buy extra things that aren't necessary for his goals.

So...if you could...what would YOUR shopping list look like for a daily driven 350-400hp red top SR20? What turbo? Cams? Fueling? Any internal or head work on your list? I need to put together the list ASAP so he can order his parts, and then I get to start putting the engine together. :)

Thanks in advance!

Get some forged pistons...Cp? pistons are common and reliable. Stock rods can handle 500hp. Bearings, clevit or ACL...(big debate) MLS head gasket. Arp rod studs. Tomei. 256 pon cams. Gt2876r turbo and some. 550cc inj. Z32 maf and an eprom tune for 20psi. Oh and walboro fuel pump. A wide band is a must. There are plenty of builds in the general section. To give you an idea.

Thanks for the ideas.

Who are the best vendors to buy from for the best prices? I don't want him to get ripped.

Also wondering about the cam followers...they're roller rockers right? I'm used to basic hydro lifters. Any reason to upgrade the cam followers or valve train or just leave it stock?

look at "how to build a 9,000 rpm head" on here. its got some great info. it depends on what he wants to do with the motor. for 350 whp id say stick with the hydro lifters and just get rocker arm stoppers and mild cams. if he wants to rev high and or get BIG cams than i would suggest going solid lifters, upgrade the valve springs etc. you will get 100 different answers for vendors different experiances. me personally have had great customer service from phase2motortrend but others havenet. frsport seems to be great and affordable (but not always). and my personal fave is rsp parts when doing complete engines they cut some killer deals ph number is 1-407-695-7223. hmm maybe nico can get them as a sponsor? as for name brand? everyone is different some most liked brands are hks tomei BC CP eagle arias... there actually all good. do some homework.
