hey, im new to your forums and im coming for advice. i have a 1977 datsun 280z and it has some rust issues. as it stands ive got about 500ish in the entire car. i had a guy look at it that knows alot about the Z car and told me id have to get some new chassis supports, floor pans and sub frame connectors, along with the outside rear wheel wells but those arent bad. but other than that its got a uncracked black dash, good l28 engine and a r200 rear end. i love the car but i dont want to sink a solid fortune into the car to get it road worthy. So i suppose im asking should i drop more money into it or just cut my losses and sell it? when i figure out how to post pictures i will

How much is a "solid fortune"? I bough my 73 knowing I would need to do rust repair, but the $500-700 I expect to spend on rust repair isn't a lot of money IMO. If you will need to hire somebody to repair the rust the right way, the answer to your question will likely be yes.

well ive found the body panels i need for right around 500, im just not sure when he said chassis supports as to what that pertains to, i know i needed floor pans and some reinforced frame rails...is that basically it? i plan on having a friend help me weld them in. i just hate to let it go an i dont have the heart to scrap it

when it comes to S30's it pays to buy th ebest chassis you can find, the mechanical bits are cheap and easy to work on, the chassis can require extensive welding of replacemnt panels and in some cases custom sheet metal work

as for the pieces, the pans and rails are often sold as a set, and when they say "rails" they reer to the rail under the floor that he might be calling supports, in adition to the frame rails forward of the firewall, the metal isn't terribly expensive but the installation is expensive unless you are ready to take ont he welding yourself

well im a maintainer for the air force and have a couple friends that career fields are metals tech, they fabercate metal and weld on a daily basis so im not to worried about the welding, although i would like to do most of the work. im just worried the chassis support is gonna be more than just the rails and pans...my friend end from the fire wall is good...ill try to get some pictures over the weekend and show ya...and ill ask for advice then

I'd really like a pic of what he is calling "chassis support" I bet he's talking about the pan rails
