Looking for some help with a issue that sprung up yesterday.
I just recently bought a 1979 620 and have been driving it for 2 days, Ive put around 60+ miles on it since purchase. The truck ran great, lots of power and fired up almost instantly with a turn of the key. Yesterday I replaced the plugs and wires along with replacing fluids. After driving about 15 mins after replacing the plugs and wires I began to lose power and heard a sizzleing sound. I made it to the shoulder and the motor died, all my dummy lights came up. Upon opening the hood I discovered the coil plug wire hanging from the distributor. I figure 'ok sweet, easy, plug it in and go"..... I plug in the wire and hop in... wont fire up! Im getting fuel, carb is shooting fuel upon accelerator sweet, starting fluid does not help either.
I checked the coil + wire and Im getting 12 volts, Im getting a nice spark when I hold the coil plug wire near the body or engine block. I have little to no spark at the actual plug wires coming off the distributor. I get a small spark if I hold a spark plug wire almost completely to the engine block. I tried holding the plug wire near the actual spark plug and saw no spark jump.
Im actually in my first year as an automotive tech but still pretty green, I own a DVOM, test light and a power probe.
From what Iv been reading Im leaning towards the ICM, but I was wondering if anyone with more experience with Datsuns could shine in.
Thanks!
