Hello. Ive got a 93 240sx with a freshly rebuilt CA18DET holding all ARP fasteners with a coppersprayed Felpro headgasket and a pretty decent size turbo and set of injectors.
But ive got an issue and im about baffled on it.
We put an emanage blue on the car, and while we were loading up the firmware, it told me to turn the key of and then back on. (I forgot to unhook the ignition harness form the emb) We heard a loud POP and a smell of electrical, but we could not locate it. We tried to start the car and it would start up and run on 1 cylinder for about 10 seconds and die.
we ran through all the basic things, we checked for spark, and had no spark on 2 3 or 4 and faint spark on 1. my initial thought was ignitor (since the pop and smoke seemed to come from that area) but i wasnt sure.
over the past 3 weeks now, ive done ALOT, made sure all the coilpacks were good, checked for continuity between the coilpack and ignitor plugs, coilpacks and grounds, ignitor plugs and ecu and its ground. Everything there is good. i took apart both ecu's to check for scortch marks, but since neither were throwing any kind of trouble code at me, i figured it was all okay.
I took the ignitor off and it tested completely backwards from the FSM... The ca18det uses a Q45 style ignitor (older square cast piece) with the square plugs on either end. Since that one tested backwards, i had someone send me another one ($15 now wasted seemingly) and it also tested backwards and didnt help the issue any. I found another one in melbourne FL just up the road from me the other day so i printed out the FSM page and headed up there. I tested it... it ALSO tested backwards.... I went home dejected and immediately grabbed the manual for my Multimeter, i looked to make sure i had the leads connected properly and i do. + and - are both properly located.
i guess my rabling thread is coming to the question of....
If the ignitor tests backwards from everything the FSM says, does that mean its bad?
if not, what other possibilities should i look into as far as what could be causing my lack of spark?
THANKS!!!
Phil
