no reverse

im getting ready to buy a 1990 240sx and evrything seems fine when i test drove it except the fact that it wont go into reverse at alllike theres somethign blocking it. the shifter wont slide into the spot , seller says that he just had clutch and transmission replaced in it and the reverse stopped working. the shop wouldnt give him his money back and wouldnt fix it.im not to sure about this does anyone have any ideas why the car wont shift into reverse? p.s. 5speed

I had that problem on my rb20det when I had too much gear oil in the transmission...

Does it shift in when the car is off? If so, open the side filler on the transmission and let the excess gear oil drain out... then try when the car is on...

i havnt bought it yet just test drove it and the revrese didnt go in gear either way off or on so maybe i need to pull the transmission out and look at it... im not sure if i really wanna buy it its really nice thougha nd thats the only real problem

i have the same problem with no reverse they guy that gave me the car said he hit a snow bank and was going to back up but it wouldnt go into reverse was wondering if it was hard to fix and what parts do i need to fix it thanks for the info. mike
