Hideous. EVs do not have to look fruity and they are not going to win converts by going to far of the reservation with the styling. The Leaf is a better idea and they should proceed in that manner. They might want to think about a small sporty manual droptop along the lines of a Tesla, but not quite as cutting edge, more like an MR2.

Image

Make it attractive in a mainstream way, as simple as can be with roll up windows, manual ragtop etc and target a more reasonable price point.

As much as I shake my head when TMS posts his obligatory MechaGodzilla jabs at the R35 I have to agree with everything he just said.

Make the EVs look like normal cars, not something George Jetson drives to Spacely Sprockets. And that first...thing is HIDEOUS. Made me think of this...

It doesn't look honestly too bad. I like the doors and the way the interior looks. But that outside is kinda meh. The Leaf looks pretty alright. But I'll have to agree with Mr. Scientist over here and say they should go for a droptop, possibly coupe, electric car and make it quick too. That'd surely attract a lot of buyers. I'd sure as hell go for one.

On the minus side, you'll likely get carjacked by a 5-year-old girl.

On the plus side, I'm sure purchase of this vehicle is covered by Medicare.

The doors are interesting. The rest of the car, especially the rear, looks terrible. Also the front.

If I had the money, I'd buy that car and give it to down-on-their-luck ugly people, so that they looked better by comparison.

Just a quick interjection - The last-gen MR2 and "ugly" are completely and utterly synonymous.

Keep 'em coming - Maybe we can influence this one a little more than we did the CrossCabriolet (which I have heard was PUSHED through by none other than Carlos Ghosn himself).

That, in itself, frightens me. I guess the SC430 was already taken. :inoutgay:

Me too. Stock it seemed a bit stunted, but with the right aero kit it works out.

Maybe they made it so odd looking because they think people will want a car that attracts attention and shouts "Hey look at me, I'm driving an electric car."
The design is interesting, but I'm not a fan of the rear.

I think a drop does wonders, too. Like a go-cart.

In fact, now I want one.

You would. ;)

3G MR2 is one of the all-time worst designs in automotive history. Sad, considering the 1G was all-business, and 2G was a masterpiece of design yumminess.

C'mon man, can you really say that when this thing is in the room?

the 2G MR2 was by far the best looking, but I don't hate the 3G mr2....that much.....looks like poop in stock form for sure.

This is probably right. Which is probably why every affordable hybrid/electric car looks like crap. When I say that, just keep in mind I'm not talking about Tesla and blahblahbla

I dig it. I learned a ton about electrics and hybrids working on the Desert Fuel project, and the packaging drives the design - it's pretty cool. Functionality + no "dead space" = awesome design.

Driver's seat in the middle is an interesting idea, especially from a manufacturing standpoint (you only have to make 1 version of the car at that point... all the parts are the same). 4m turning circle is nice too. The seating arrangement would be weird... everyone would be disconnected. I couldn't see myself going on a date in that car.

...not that anyone would actually get in- that thing is absolutely hideous. The wheels/tires are completely unrealistic. It almost looks like they borrowed a lot of design cues from one of the most hideous vehicles ever made (which conveniently is from their sister company) Image

Driver's seat in the middle makes sure that all conversations include the driver. Honestly, it's ugly, but the seating arrangement is definitely intriguing.

I'm going to TRY and understand where Nissan is going.

The Japanese have a habit of making wacky concept cars with zero production intent, so the features and technologies here will probably find their way into the Leaf and other future electrics. Perhaps I'm being too generous.

If I want to sit in the center, there's already a car for me.

I have no problem with the technology, saving gas is saving gas (I still think electrics are inefficient but thats a different story).

What do you mean by "the packaging drives the design" though?

Hey, OKCupid is really picking up as of late! Chicks getting lonely around holidays and whatnot. I'm going on one tonight as a matter of fact.

How many dates have you been on lately old timer? No, trips to SEMA with Torry don't count ;)
