Nissan Quest 3.0 irratic idle

Good day,

Our 97 Quest when warning up will develope an unstable idle when say stopped at a stop light.

The engine will surge up and down. I slip it into neutral and then back ito drive to get rid of the problem. My bh just gets mad and complains to me.

Last fall it had a complete tune up and timing belt. It did have the problem prior to that as well but has not shown itself in the past 6 months.

Any ideas??? THNXS!

It could be a timing issue but it could also be something to do with the IAC/V.

Thnxs A32... I talked with my tech today and he wants to start by blowing out the intake. Then go from there. Will update as we get into it.

i don't think so, if this is similar to the maxima's v6 engine, it has a timing belt...

ala interference engine to boot

just did some digging about my recent purchase of a 2002 model w/ the slightly bigger v6 3.3L engine... also w/ a timing belt & interference engine setup

did the vehicle's computer spit out any trouble codes?

The 2004 Quest with the VQ35 was the first Quest that I know of to receive a timing chain motor. The Quest retained the VG30 while the Maxima moved on to the VQ30 and eventually the VQ35.

he has a 1997- so it's still a timing belt
