I have used a warranty from SWBC called Major Mechanical Protection. They were pretty no nonsense and fair.

With the M37 and all the electronics, I decided to get a warranty. I bought my 2012 with 66K on it. I got their top tier coverage (platinum) for 50K or 60months for $1700.00. I figured I could get some struts, probably motor mounts, etc done before the warranty end and break even. Well my power folding mirrors aren't working and it's starting to look like that repair is going to be $3000+. Also I think I might have strut mounts making noise.

Did the warranty cover the repair?

I just recently contacted Nissan USA, as my powertrain warranty just ran out, and my extended warranty is going to run out in 11k miles. Nissan told me their warranty goes up to 100k miles on the odometer. Is it worth for me to get this warranty once my Rogue crosses 72k?

I am definitely planning on purchasing the Infiniti Elite zero deductable around the 29,000 range on my 2017 QX50 which currently has 14,750 miles. I will have no choice but to get it prior to the 4 year mark (to avoid the $1200 premium increase going over 30,000 miles) on my bumper to bumper due to excessive miles.Regardless, it happens to be a great warranty and is not third party but directly through Infiniti. I had it on both my G35s in the past and more than paid for itself over the course of 10+ years of ownership. Unfortunately, here in Florida, the price of the warranty is regulated and I am unable to price match out of state. The longest term of 72month/82,000 miles is fairly expensive at around $3200 but still worth it as I have every package with a fair amount of electronics. I wouldn't consider going without it.

Hey all. I hope someone here can help me answer my question fairly quickly. I presume I already know the answer to it but I just need some really good advice from Infiniti owners.

I own a 2014 QX80 purchased October 23rd. I received information from the finance gal last week and is like to make my decision either tomorrow or next Monday. Can any of you give me some really good advice concerning extended warranties on the QX80. First lux vehicle I've ever bought. Bought one step down from the Limited vrsn.

This is what I was given concerning Extended Warranty pricing. As I said, any help or advice is sorely needed.

Hi Anthony:

It was great talking with you earlier. I have two different warranty options that are available for your 2015 Infiniti QX80. The INFINITI Elite Protection Plan comes with a $100 deductible, and provides you complete protection at all Infiniti dealerships. The Platinum Plan has a $100 deductible, and provides you with nationwide coverage at all repair facilities so you are not just limited to Infiniti dealerships. I have also attached the brochures for the Infiniti Elite Plan and the Platinum Plan. Below are the terms and pricing:

INFINITI Elite Protection Plans with $100 deductible:

60 months/60,000 miles: $7,252 + tax

48 months/60,000 miles: $6,232 + tax

48 months/48,000 miles: $5,477 + tax

36 months/48,000 miles: $4,875 + tax

The Platinum Plan with $100 deductible:

48 months/50,000 miles: $4,048 + tax

36 months/45,000 miles: $3,905 + tax

24 months/30,000 miles: $3,638 + tax

All plans start from date of purchase and current odometer reading. Let me know what plan is going to work best for you and I would be glad to assist! Talk with you soon!

Welcome aboard!

Holy hell. Here's how I'd handle that: It's clearly out of the original factory warranty... but if you take that column of numbers on the left, pick one, take that amount and put it in an interest-bearing account, don't touch it and let is sit, I can't imagine you can't be self-insured. Assuming 3 or 4 repairs over the life of the warranty adds another $400 to the cost, PLUS any non-covered expenses.

That car is ranging between $25k - $35k nationwide. I just don't see how giving them another 10%-25% for a car that's depreciating FAST is a smart financial move (in 5 years, that's a $9k vehicle).

Worst-case scenario, you have a major malfunction (likely in the electronics, let's say the nav/audio stack takes a crap). That's $3500 out of pocket if you take it to the dealer and self-pay. Basically, you just broke even (or worse, depending on the plan you chose). The drivetrain is proven - I'd not hesitate to take that vehicle well above 100k miles.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

Appreciate your response to my question. Original factory warranty ends October 23rd which is this this coming Tuesday. My brother just told me the exact same thing today Don't buy the warranty but invest that money. In the end these vehicles are built to last as long as you take care of it (fingers crossed)

I don't know that I'd call it a ripoff, but it's simply an insurance policy - and an insurance policy is a bet, where the house wins if they don't pay out.

I'd get her into the dealership tomorrow [yes, tomorrow]. Mention it's making an odd noise at speed, sometimes the radio volume fluctuates and the speakers crackle, the MPG is lower than normal, it's down on power, and sometimes it doesn't start on the first crank of the key. Make them go ALL through it - if they find something, great. If not, at least you got a full inspection and a free car wash. :)

By the way, $7252 (without tax or any $100 deductibles) invested in a good mutual fund over 5 years equates to an ending investment balance of
$10,655.57.

I like my chances with that bet. ;)

Hello all,

I bought my 2015 Q70 Sport new on 11/03/2014 and the factory warranty is about to expire. The car only has 24,000 miles on it after 4 years of ownership and I've had all the 5,000 mile services done at the dealership where the car was purchased. All work done has been been maintenance with the exception of a braking/steering pull issue and a shimmy when braking issue that was covered under a voluntary recall.

Would anyone advise an extended warranty in my case or just take my chances? Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

RichMarth

I just purchased an additional extended warranty for my 2016 Rogue, since the current extended warranty is about to be done soon (Rogue has 71k on clock) in about 1k miles. This new warranty gives me an additional 100k miles of coverage (coverage ends at 172k) for 4 years, which I will probably blow through this since I do lots of highway driving. But it should be able to cover the first transmission replacement (cause we all love Nissan's affairs with them Jatco CVTs). Apparently, from what multiple sales people told me, the dealerships should be able to find.

Not a chance.

The good news is, that's a bulletproof truck. Put $100 each month into a savings account, and this time next year, you'll have enough to do almost any repair or maintenance it might need. Drive it until it no longer makes sense to fix, and you will have gotten your money's worth out of it!

I purchased the Nissan Security Plus GOLD Preferred plan in 2017 (See post on this thread from 8/7/17) online through Jim Bone Nissan in California for our 2015 Pathfinder... This past week we had the Motor Fan Assembly (Blade/Shroud/Bushings) replaced - also under extended warranty - as there was a loud flapping/clicking coming from the engine area, usually when the a/c was on... POINT is that the service department told me the Motor Fan issue is: 1) a known issue by Nissan and would cost $800-$900 to fix; and 2) NOT covered under the Security Plus extended warranties UNLESS you have the GOLD level plan... so just something to keep in mind... Overall the truck has been great BUT I am very happy I purchased the extended warranty GOLD plan.

I'm loving this site. Nice to see so many Nissan fans. Every time I buy a car that's not Nissan I regret it. Nissan's just feel right to me.
Anyway, I just bought a 2015 Pathfinder with 21k miles on it. I never buy warranties but all I read about the CVT leaves me a little concerned.
I can get a 3rd party warranty for another 100k miles/6 years, no deductible for $1700 from LibertyBellAuto in NJ.

Or I can get a real Nissan extended warranty from Jim Bone Santa Rosa Nissan for $1895 that's 80k miles /6 years $100 deductible.
I'd rather go with Nissan but that last 20k miles seems like a critical time to have issues with the CVT.
Is the Nissan extended warranty the same as the bumper to bumper or is it Nissan representing an insurance company that is still going to try to reject your claim? Sorry to post something that seems a bit redundant.

If the Nissan warranty was for another 100k miles instead of 80k I would take it for sure. Plan on keeping this Pathfinder a long time. Really enjoying it.

That $0 deductible is very enticing ... as is the extra 20k miles... I get it... I just never fully trust this third party warranty... I bought my car in Pennsylvania from a Nissan dealer, got the Nissan warranty from Jim Bone Nissan in California, and serviced the car under the warranty at my local dealer in NY... no issues whatsoever...

Two suggestions ... 1) try and contact Jim Bone by phone and see if they can give you a slightly better deal... the warranty person was a bit hard to contact but she was helpful once I did... also go through the sign up on their website... after a few days you may get a email with a discount coupon .. I did and used it for like $100 off or 10% (I can’t recall which)...
And 2) if getting the Nissan warranty get the GOLD level so much better value and closet to new car bumper-2-bumper.

Gotta read the article. A warranty is nothing more than an insurance policy, and buying through a dealership doesn't make it special. They're ALL third-party warranties.

Well, it turns out the 3rd party warranty I was looking at doesn't cover CVT Transmissions anyway. I'll stick with Jim Bone.

Just got myself into a weird situation. I never buy warranties. The only reason I did was because of what I read about the reliability of the CVT. I got an actual Nissan Warranty. I had them do a transmission fluid flush at the same time I got the warranty inspection. Ever since that day I get a shutter when I'm driving around 25 mph. It's a common sign of a CVT issue. But if I bring it back to the dealer now and tell them it started when I got the flush, do they think of it as a preexisting condition? I'm thinking of waiting a month.

If they did the fluid flush, you could either bring it back immediately and say it started when they did that, or wait.
They might just have to do a TCM reset or something.

I've been researching it and it looks like it might be common after a flush because of the new fluid...or something..I'm not expert. I just don't want it to look like a pre-existing condition. It could be nothing and then it gets marked down that I had a transmission issue before the warranty went into effect.

Anyone know if you can extend an extended warranty? Purchased a Nissan Extended Warranty for my 2018 Nissan Rogue. It hasn't hit the 3 year 36k miles yet, but already thinking I may keep it longer then the warranty I got which is 7 years. Can I extend it longer or would I have to buy a whole new plan?

Because you're still under Basic and the WFEX isn't actually in effect yet, I'm pretty sure you can change it without issues. Your payment may go up or there may be finance issues with doing it, that's a different matter.

Do I need really need the Nissan "Certification" if I am also getting the Nissan Security+ Gold Extended Warranty???

I am back in the market - This time for a CPO Rogue. If you haven't noticed, what many dealers do is "advertise" a car as "Certified" at a very low price but then when you sit down they actually add $995 (or similar) as a "Certification" fee to the sale price of the car --- as well as other "refurbishing fees" etc... If we get back past the obvious dishonesty in this for a moment it got me thinking... Do I really need really need the Nissan "Certification" if I am also getting the Nissan Security+ Gold Extended Warranty??? The Nissan CPO is really just a "Powertrain" warranty up to 7y/100K mile... The Security+Gold Package seems to cover the same Powertrain items AND many other non-Powertrain parts. So... If they are itemizing these things as it is, wouldn't that $995 be better spent on the Extended Warranty??? [This assumes that one would get the Nissan Extended Warranty up to at least 100,000 miles and get the "Gold" level of the same (Both of which I would)]. If someone know the ins-in-outs of the Nissan "Certified" Warranty and thinks its covers more of the Powertrain than the Nissan Security+ Gold level extended warrant then please advise. Any other thoughts please share.

On that point, I'm pretty well settled on getting the Security+ Gold Extended Warranty... You can read my previous posts on this thread on how it has paid off for me as a I tend to keep the cars for a long time... Also... if you want the most recent Jim Bone Nissan Online prices for the Security+ Gold Extended Warranty, see below:::

Jim Bone Nissan is pissing me off. I've emailed, called, texted, carrier pigeon and no one will get back to me. I'm trying to extend an extended warranty I bought from them but they act like I don't exist. Now I know why their Yelp and other reviews are 1 star. They might have some decent prices on warranties but their customer service sucks.

Call Nissan Consumer Affairs. In general they take "non-responsiveness" as seriously as a heart attack. The dealership GM will get a very rude phone call that he can't blow off.

So I'm kind of jumping in at the end of a thread without doing much reading, but this goes back so far that I'm sure a lot of the information is outdated anyhow.

My mother in law's Rogue is currently at the dealership getting a transmission rebuild at 27,000 miles. It's been in service for a little under 4 years, purchased new, so we're still in powertrain coverage. This isn't a car I want to wrench on, and with this experience with the dreaded CVT failure - and all of the electronic stuff on this Rogue - I'm thinking I might save myself some headaches selling her on a warranty of some sort.

Any advice on what kind of warranty we should purchase, or if it's worth it?

Hey Q451990,

Looks like you are out of your original 3/36 warranty as you state your MILs car is almost 4 years old. That being said you can get the “used/pre-owned” Nissan Extended Warranty...

I actually just posted prices for Rogues a few clicks above... As you can read there, and in past posts, I purchased mine online through Jim Bone Nissan in California (I live in NY) and have used it without issue more than enough times to make the cost worth it, let alone the comfort/convenience of having it.

For example, my 2015 Patfinder was bought as a CPO... but that is really just an extended powertrain warranty... the CPO warranty did kick in to replace the transfer case when it went bad, but the Motor Fan Assembly ($800) and now a Strut+ issue ($1,200) have been covered under the Nissan Security+ Gold level Extended Warranty... my car is at about 95k now and I have another 20k mile to go under the warranty I purchased.

Good luck!
