I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a similar car in the usdm market to the nissan a31 from japan which has the rb20det in it. I'm looking for it's crossmembers actually. I was thinking it might be the older model infiniti g20s. Thanks for the help, Jed

I do not know of any US spec cars that had the RB engine in it. The G20's had/have an SR20DE.

i wasn't really lookin for a us car with an rb, just the us equivalent of the nissan cefiro(a31). if there is one and it's rwd then it's likely to have the same crossmembers where as you could use the rb mounts to mount the rb. thanks anyways, i think i'm gonna email an infiniti dealer and ask them.

nope. no usdm equivalent to the a31. however most nissan rwd cars have pretty similar rear suspension. i would check crossmembers off of a q45 and m30 first. may not be any crossmembers like you are looking for though.

Actually..if this thread is still active....

The suspension off of an S13 will bolt in perfectly to the A31.Problem is the S13 suspension (Not coilovers) do not have adequte stroke on the shock and the result is an undrivable slammed car.

most of the suspension parts between the S13 and A31 are the same. Brakes are the same as the RPS13 and PS13. Engine and tranny were Skyline, but everything else was S13. Differential was a CA18DET diff.

I owned two S13's with CA's and an A31 Cefiro. On a RPS13 180SX now.

I think the A31 Cefiro and Q45 are the exact same chassis. In addition to that, they both look very similar from the exterior. Although, I'm not too sure how crossmembers and other stuff might be compatible between the two.

Trust me. I owned an A31 Cefiro. It is only a little longer than the S13 Chasis. The Q45 is MUCH larger in length and width. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.

Looks can be deceiving. I agree that inside and out the A31 and Q45 look the same....but trust me the Q45 makes the Cefiro look small next to it....

This is my old Cefiro.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion. I've been to your website before and seen the pics of your Cefiro. It looks nice man! Just makes me want one that much more.

No problems....like I said they look identical inside...Q45 has alot more room. Loved the Cefiro that's why I am looking at buying a Q45.

But the lead post was talking about the A31 Cefiro and there is NO US Nissan or Infiniti that is built to the A31 Cefiro's layout (FR with any of the following engines CA18DE, RB20E, RB20DE, RB20DET, or RB25DE, Nissan even had a very limited AWD version for the more inclement areas of Northern Japan.)

In 1995 Nissan screwed up and made the A32 Cefiro, using the VG25DE and VG30DE engines with an FF layout. The A32 Maxima and A32 Infiniti I30 are the same and A33's are the same....

But again...US had no A31's........

Oh, BTW...I have an article (Reader's Letter) in this month's Sport Compact Car....correcting a mistake in the May03 issue calling an A31 Cefiro a Q45.

Oh...I just remembered. Infiniti M30's share quite a bit in common with the R31 Skyline (where nissan first introduced the RB20 series)

Friend of mine in Okinawa has a RB26DETT slammed into a R31, takes 1st at all the 0-400 races (1/4 mile give or take a few meters)

He is returning to the US and is going to Hawaii....He just spent a grip on the RB26 and is not letting it go....therefore he found all the information out that the R31 Skyline and M30 actually share the same Chasis. He will be dropping the RB26 straight into the M30...and converting the front end to the R31 face.

Since the R31 and A31 share alot in common....it would be easy to assume that the M30 is the car of closest comparison to the A31.

the a31 is used on the nissan maxima. though the maxima designator for japan is j30. i saw an undercarriage pic of the 88 maxima and there are mounting holes for a rear cradle. though it happens that the exhaust runs down the center tunnel so that would have to be modded. im trying to figure this out so i went and bought one just a couple of hours ago. i will post watever finds and how to if i can pull it off.

The M30 chassis code is the F31. I found it on a tire website of all places. There's basically no information on the car that I could find in my searches. Try the keywords "F31 VG30DET" because that's the chassis and engine code. We got the weaksauce VG30E. Anyway, I'm willing to bet the ceramic turbo VQ30DET fits snugly into the car, and that'd be a great and unique project. I saw a Gloria/Cedric VQ30DET front clip going for $1500 not long ago. There's some really cool VIP-style F31s in Japan.
