oK, for the folks that know me on NICO, you know I like monitors. Right now, I have 2 cameras and 8 monitors in the coupe... I was trying to get to10, when I thought of something... why not get the Kenstyle (Extreme Dimensions) rear bumper, and mount 4-6 more monitors in the center of the bumper area...

I know, most of you are thinking I've lost my mind.. but the thing is, I would only need to pay for the bumper and the paint, my custom shop is going to do the rest for only the cost of the materials (i.e. plexiglass, fiberglass, and a hugh discount on the price of the monitors) The entire job from start to finish should run about $2000

so imagine this

with 6 monitors along the top and bottom of the center line on the bumper, behind tinted plexiglass fiberglass molded into the bumper. If done, it won't be a cheap looking job, it'll be pretty sick. And the plexiglass will be spray tinted enough so that you will NOT be able to see that there are monitors behind it during the day, but at night, with the flip of a switch, the monitors come on, and the extreme hating begins... (you gotta keep player haters employed... let them do their job!! let them hate!!!)

Anyway, I haven't decided on this yet, but in rare fashion, I figured I'd let you guys mull it over for me and give your opinions.. so please don't hold back.. tell me what you think (it doesn't have to be positive)

Before I vote, I'd like to know how this mod would stand up to a rear-ender

i'd put my money that someone would try and jack those within a week, two tops.

on the other hand you could play some awesome pr0n for the family minivan behind you while going down the highway. talk about entertainment value.

Doc, seems like you got a lot of money to spend. Trying to help the economy?

I voted no because I think you can use that money on something else on the car. I can foresee a bunch of jealous people going to f*ck you car intentionally if you put the monitors on the bumper.

But do get the ED bumper! It looks awesome!

That's pretty crazy. Go for it.

Totally impractical, useless, frivolous, f-ing sweet.

I'm sorry if this comes off sarcastic, it's not.

I really want to se this done.

I'd say no and to get instead some D2 coilovers for 850$ or to go balls out with the same AIR RIDE kit RAMON has on his altima sedan for that price, but since you obviously already want to do this mod, well DO IT ! not enough innovators for the coupe. I remember when you first got here with those monitors on the side rear passenger panels, I was like, WHAT?!!. but you really are making your coupe unique and props for that!

do it DO IT DOOOO ITTT!!

Doc, with the previous run-ins your car has had with crooks, I wouldn't give criminals more reasons to like your car. With a mod like that, you may wake up to your car alarm going off, but the car might not be there by the time you and your gun get to where you parked. Now, I know that that's what insurance is for, but would it be worth the risk?

My .02 is that you should just put that money towards the cost of a turbo.

I've never understood the whole monitor thing...

ED kit by itself sounds like a good idea though

Although I don't think those chrome 20's will go well with it.

I am fully down for that idea. But remember you have allready had people break into the inside of your whip and try to jack your deck. They didnt go into the truck probably because they didn't know what you had back there. But if you throw 6 monitors into your trunk for all the world to see. Then you are just asking for someone to try and jack your whole trunk lid and everything else you have in the trunk. You should invest in a garage first. Then go nuts. But it is a very unique idea and would be sick if you pull it off. Defenetly center stage worthy at a audio show. Not that your whip isnt allready

lol.. the responses have been interesting... while I would love to do this in a perfect world, the world aint quite perfect. If this were a project car, I would do it in a heartbeat (because having a project car means I would have a garage to keep it in) But I don't have a garage and this is my daily driver.

Anyway, this is the thing about spending money during these times... the very thing we need to do is the thing we are afraid of doing. The economy is tanking, so we save our money and don't spend it. But not spending our money is one of the reasons the economy is getting worse. We need to get consumers out spending... hoarding money is probably good in the short term for the individual, but it does NOTHING to help our economy.

All that said, I definately thought about doing this, but too many issues are keeping this from becoming a reality. I've heard of similar things being done in other cars, but this was something I really wanted to do to satisfy my monitor fetish... but oh well, in 10 years, when I have the space for project cars... I will revisit this idea...
headhunt3r wrote:Before I vote, I'd like to know how this mod would stand up to a rear-ender
my trunk as is stands now would be destroyed in the event of a rear end collision... one of my worst nightmares regarding the car, but in the big scheme of things, worse things could happen!
losenone wrote:Dude, where do you live that your 8 monitors dont get stolen? lol
... my car is relatively protected during the day, at night are my biggest concerns.. luckily we live in a cove that's one way in one way out... and next to us is a giant canyon.. thieves are really putting themselves in a bind if they try to break into where my car is parked (if you can catch them in the act like I did last time)
coderedk wrote:this is the stupidest **** i ever heard lmao....NO def nooo
I agree! COLOURS
michaelthepsycho wrote:

Michael.. somewhere, some is shaking their head at your gun collection, saying "why on earth does he need all those guns.. I don't get it"... our desires aren't for other folks to get, otherwise, we'd be constrained to their views of good, bad, right, wrong, acceptable, unacceptable, etc... Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Anrdre 3000 have embraced the idea of freedom already.. the rest of us are too chicken to do the same (myself included).. but in unique ways, we all try

As far as pics of the collection go... i think you guys have seen almost all of them except for the one in the engine bay... and there's pics of that from the Decmber SOCAL meet we had

thanks again to everyone for their response, in the end, it really is a pretty obsurd idea.. but it still intrigues me...

Honestly dude, I think you'd be insane to do this. Insane in a crazy way for many many reasons. Simply ridiculous really.

Invest the money into something useful and practical.

I voted no. Spend the money on something more functional like a turbo.

bottom line is that this is your car and these are your car modifications..do what makes you happy, not other people's suggestions of what to get rather than your monitor ideas..its not their car(although i value their opinions) what makes you happy is monitors. if you want this project then get it done.

of course this is outside of whether you can afford it or not..thats up to you to figure out. if you can and its something you want then i say go for it. also, its 2000 but for the job youre doing thats not much

out of the 40+ mods on my car, I've never asked for anyone's opinion... its not something I'm generally interested in.. but this time I figured I'd see what NICo thought about this type of modification...

lol.. and regarding the money, I'm not balling, but money isn't the issue... the biggest issue is whether I want to deal with the headaches that are sure to follow this type of mod on a daily driver , mainly... another break in and what could follow from that( another shooting incident, possibly having to really shoot someone if they are armed, court dates, law suits, etc)

I don't know, its still up in the air, I keep going back and forthworst case scenario, I'll just keep my stock bumper in storage, and throw it back on there if this one gets ripped off

I wouldn't keep from doing something I wanted to do just because I was scared somebody might rip me off. It is a dangerous situation you just have to weigh out the pos/neg of the situation. In this case I say it's not worth it mainly because if they were to try and steal it (it seems) like if they did a good job your alarm wouldn't go off.

The backside of the bumper would be exposed with the 6 monitors in there (am I right or completely off ???)

But in the end, my opinion is save the money (garage doesn't sound too bad) and invest in something a little easier to protect

Rob, I think you have answered your own question... It would be insanely crazy to have those on your car (I think in a good way), but the PITA stress and worry u will go through from having this on your car as a daily driver and something that sits in a car port, not a locked secure garage and with someone who's already had 2 incidents with his car in the middle of the night, you're just asking for trouble. Don't do it dude, I know you want to, but it just ain't practical in your situation.
