Car: 1984 Nissan King Cab

Post

I finally talked by 88 year-old neighbor into selling me his 1984 King Cab. He bought it new and it has lived in his garage all of its life. It has 53,000 miles and is 100% all original. He had some work done a few months ago just to get it running - carb rebuild, fuel system drain (including the tank), and fuel filter. It still idles fast (about 2000 RPMs) and you can smell gas after turning it off. I'm going to replace all of the vacuum lines, distributor cap, and plug wires, as well as check the timing. Is there anything else I should be looking for?

I would buy a can of carb spray and start it up and spray the vacuum lines for leaks.

Then also you could buy an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and install it if you think you are over fueling due to pressure.

If its not vacuum leaks for sure then check timing with a gun.

Other things to look for?

Condition of suspension and its bushings. Look for rust. Check to make sure air moves around. And if it has a stock radio, you might want to upgrade all the audio which in these trucks means DIY and show it off.
