Newbie: How does this sound?

General discussion forum about the 240sx, and a great place to introduce yourself to the board!

Hi All,

I am debating between a 91 crx si, and a 91 240. I currently own a crx dx, and really like the car. It has been ultra-reliable, gets awsome mileage, and is a kick in the arse to drive. I am just looking for something a little quicker. My questions are:

I know that the 240 is reliable (I searched!), but is it as relliable as my honduh, honestly? the 240 i am looking at has 122k on the clock, and has been cared for.

Headroom; I am 6'2" and I do fit into the rex, but I want to autocross, and a helmet would be really tight, especially with the si (sunroof). Will I be ok in an s13 with a sunroof?

Part cost and availablity: I can find most anything i need at a pick 'n' pull for the rex cheap, is that the case for the 240?

I already know what I need to about the si, and that hondas suck etc, etc, so you don't need to tell me about that:D Any help would be great!

if you search i know there are many threads comparing 240s to crxs for potential buyers

i have a 91 240 coupe and im 6' 0" and i fit fine and dandy, if you wear a helmet it will hit the roof every once and a while, if your bouncing up and down (i dont know if the sunroof adds much more room, i dont have one)

not to get completely OT, but when i saw "wrcekedrex" i thought you were the kid that blew the engine in a WRX pushing 18PSI on stock fuel, with no management :lol:.....continue with original topic :)

with 122k miles, isnt bad, some members have nearly 200k, 240's are very reliable, from what i read, and the most major/common problem is timing chains. parts availibility, you can find anything you can get for a honda but youll probly have to look and pay a lil more, you wont just look inthe jegs book and find ****, the 240 (180/silvia/etc) is widely supported in japan, hence having to look more.

but then again, i dont own one, nor have i had to buy parts for it, ive just SEARCHED for topics similar to yours and read the threads and found 99% of my questions answered ;)

The 240 isn't exactly fast..

I also think that you will have a harder time finding parts, but many people on this board have cars they are parting out...

I'm 6'2" also and I fit fine with a sun roof... You just have to mess w/ the seat untill you are comfortable :) also 122k miles is pretty good, so good luck!

Thanks for the input. I appologize for not searching a little harder the first time. After looking a little harder I found answers for most of my questions. My main hope was for more headroom, but that doesn't seem to be the case :( as far as parts go, I meant stock replacement stuff, interior bits and other little crap like that, not aftermarket stuff. I have no huge tuning aspirations, just basic suspension and bolt-ons. Between the lack of headroom and not so great fuel economy (relative to a crx), I think that the rex is slightly ahead. I need to test drive the 240 before I make a decision though. Again, thanks much for the help.

If your autoxing I believe a stock 240 will beat the pants off a crx.

ya...and i'm shocked no one threw in the RWD plug :-) that always seems to be the first thing people mention to honduh drivers. btw...he bashed honduhs first so none of us had to....he must have done his homework ;-)

You dont have alot of seat time do you? While I love the 240, GS is a very competitive class, and some feel the 240 should be dropped a class down... The crx si is also in that class btw, and is a very compotent lil' contender very capable of handing the s-chassis its a** around the cones.

While Im not proud to say it, it is true. It would come down to the drivers solely, in my eyes.

edit: BTW sunroofs in the s-chasssis severly limit head room. Its about 2-3" in an s14. My car is perfect with a full face helmet at around 6" and no sunroof, but touches the roof in a sunroofed s14 as I found out while riding along for a crazy spin session 2 auto-x's ago....
