Post

Hello, all.

I recently purchased an early production aztec red NA 2+0 with a manual transmission. It has ALL of the issues about which I've read here. The steering rack bushings (already received them) are toast. The shifter bushings (already installed them) were GONE (literally nothing left). The front suspension is sagging. The timing belt is on high-interest borrowed time. It will not run again until the full 120k service (plus plus) has been completed. The paint is ruined. There is a large dent in the driver side quarter panel below the fuel filler. The front bumper is broken where they always break. The seats are torn and some of the foam is ripped out. All the dew wipes are broken..... I feel i could turn this into a horror novel of broken or worn pieces of Z. It would be good to stop here. Anyway, there are a few pictures on my drive account. Right now, I am doing some things which can be completed for little or no money while the Z account builds and the list of needed repairs is completed. I have a question about the glove box in the mean time. The accent ring around the lock cylinder on the cover is holding the lock cylinder. Should the cylinder just slide out to the rear of the cover without any problems? Or is the ring going to break if I try to do that? Thanks for the help in advance and I hope nobody has a seizure from seeing the pictures of a neglected Z.

Here is what I've been doing today...
The 26 year old tweed is pretty disgusting. This needs to change.
Put some suede on it (microsuede)

Good luck! Subscribing to follow your progress as I think we are on the same path with the same tired, beaten horse :)

Some P.O. covered all those same pieces in mine with cheap vinyl that is peeling at the edges, had been planning to micro-suede mine as well.

Check interior innovations. They have a microsuede interior kit that I didn't see until after I had started working. Do you have any pictures of your project?

I was digging through that website the other day actually..... I've had reasonable success re-covering panels in vinyl on a past project so I thought I might go get a small sample of microsuede and try the glove box door first. Seems I can get enough material to cover all those badly covered parts for $30-$60 so I'm having trouble realizing the value in their $325 for the same (now I may prove myself wrong but?) A new set of seat covers from them on the other hand I certainly have on my list.

Hate to hi-jack your thread but since you asked :)

She photographs reasonably well from 5'-10' but if you look hard there's lots o' little problems. And a host of others you can't see (passenger window won't go down, pass. door doesn't open from the inside, pass. headlight not working (not the fuse), a/c not blowing cold, only 2 bolts holding on the cat side of the exh., think she needs a throwout bearing......etc....)
