I got new wheels in the mail last night and they are already mounted and balanced. I'm not going to worry about hooking up the TMPS to the new wheels until I change the tires. But is there anything I have to unhook or do to turn off the TPMS when removing the factory wheels? Or can I just take off the wheels and throw my new ones on?

I don't think you can turn off the tpms, might be able to pull a fuse? otherwise I believe the light will stay on all the time

It seems like something has to be connected to the wheels somehow to be able to get the tire pressure. I have no clue how it works obviously......

Congrats on your new wheels! pics are a must once you have them installed. The TPMS works via radio frequency, that said there is no physical link between the TPMS box that is in your wheel. As long as you dont mind that light in your dash, you dont have to do anything. Just swap the wheels as if you had a flat.

Hey Thanks, I got the 19 inch G-Games by Rays Engineering in gunmetal. I'll definitely post up some pics once they are on. They are supposed to be a light wheel.

That makes a lot more sense about the TPMS. Sounds like I'm going to have an annoying light on my dash all the time.......I was hoping the only difference would be the gauge would just read a line instead of the tire pressure.

Ok, I got the new shoes put on tonight and I got some pics. Thankfully I don't have any lights shining on my dash telling me the TPMS isn't hooked up.

Ok, I guess I spoke too soon. I only drove it down the street after I put them on last night. The TPMS light started flashing on my dash this morning and stayed on.......

Interesting. I put a set of the off-road package wheels and tires on my Titan last week. I put them on with the used tires so I could drive the old wheels to a tire shop to have the tires removed before I go get the tires on the new wheels so I could get the TPMS off. My light never came on. My assumption was/is at this point that if there are no sensors, no light wil come on. And if there is at least one, sensor detected, it will. It may vary with the model, but I would have thought the operation would be similar. Who knows now...

yeah i dont think you can dis engage tpms but if you can fit the valve stems from factory wheel in new tires the light would cut off as long as the valve stem is near the edge of rim and not way back in the center line...well good luck a nice piece of electrical tape on the dash might take care of it too

unscrew the tps sensor let it fall in the wheel have the tire dismounted take the sensor out have it installed on your new rims and have the proper psi ans your light will go off!

So the TPMS sensor is in the valve stem of my factory wheels and all I have to do is take it out and install it on the new wheels? Sounds easy enough, I'm going to give that a try.

the sensor is attaches to the back of the stem, actually the stem is a small part of the sensor that pokes through the wheels, you have to pull the tires off the wheels to swap the sensors over

Thanks for the info. So I basically have to get sensor off the factory stems and put them on the new wheels. Do you know if I have to use the factory valve stems also or can I just attach the sensors to the valve stems on the wheels I have?

you will have to use the factory stems. The stems on your aftermarket wheels dont have a spot for the sensor to attach to it. i dont know if the sensors are position specific, as in the left front sensor would have to go on the left front wheel. i used to work for mercedes benz as a tech and if the sensors werent out back in the right spot they had to have theyre positions reassigned through the tester or driven for about two hours. either way once they are switched it should take care of your light.
