I'm new to the forum trying to figure out how to navigate around the website.

I have a few questions about a 1986 nissan with a z24 I recently bought. Ive mainly worked on a been around fords all my life, so the z24 is kind of a new thing. I bought it to help out on gas, cause my 79 ford is not to great on gas.
The z24 has had a blown head gasket once before that I know of, the truck was still ran while it had a blown hg causing a hole in the block. The head was sent off and fixed and the block was welded up and filed down. All the work was done before I bought it. Im concerned if its goin to hold. It seems the truck came with a z24i or thats what it shows under the hood but the serial number on the block shows it to be a z24 but it has the injection system instead of a carb. Im also curious if the emission system could be deleted, and if the egr valve could cause the head gasket to blow, or what is the main cause of the blown head gaskets in the z24 and what is the best way to avoid it.

i purchased an 89 from an original owner and he mentioned head gasket issues.....told me that regular cooling system flush's are the answer as rust build up is one of the main causes for head gasket failure. i suspect this needs to be done from an early stage in the vehicles life, and throughout. since yours is new, i suppose fllowing this service advise, along with regular oil changes is about all you can do to ward off failure of the gasket in the future.
