New to Nico, with a sweet car! with problems...

Hi,

Im new to nissan and Nico. I resently bought a 1969 Datsun 521, and its one of the last of its kind here in norway. This has made my repaires expensive and difficult.

I just changed the alt, which worked well when i wired it directly to the battery, so i know it charges. I figured i had a bad volt reg, so i replaced it and removed the wire i had to the battery. Now when i turned the key the IGN light actually worked as a first, but when the engine started the light was flickering, and the new volt reg was smokeing. The volt output at battery with the engine off was 12.54v, with engine on it was only 11.92v so i know its not charging, its just frying my volt reg. Whats wrong!?! :P

This was suppose to be my new daily driver, but i keep running into problems, and this weekend i need a car and cant drive around on my 2 feet.

possible blown fusible link... or fuse?

i hate electric stuff... and it doesn't help that you live somewhere with limited datsuns

i got a question about my car... i got a b13 and wanna get a racing clutch. Are ebay clutches good to get cause i found one for like $200 and it was a stage 3 6 puk

To the OP: Welcome to NICO! How badly is the regulator smoking? Is it really cooking it? I'll see if I can rope Greg in here.

I'd replace the main ground wire from the battery to the chassis and the engine.

That is always a good place to start... and you can do that without datsun specific hardware.

Welcome to NICO and congrats on the 521 purchase, I've owned one for a few years now and love it. As for the electrical, you can attempt to run new wires or trace your old wiring/harness and correct the problem. My wiring is a mess on my 521 and gives me issues from time to time...the joys of old vehicles haha.
