Hey new to the board, and a new Versa owner =) my first brand new car ever and couldnt be happier =)

just for info i got a 08 nissan versa SL with Conv. Package

ive been reading here and decided to finally post

I do have a question. . .

what is the breakin point for the car? as in est. miles. Im almost at 3k and im still not getting the claimed MPG ill record this tank fill to see what i got.

Also, I searched and havent seen anything or maybe I missed it but im actually going to start my first project on my Versa

Having a 8 speaker system =) it wouldnt be anything too high tech but i was thinking of installing2 of my former speakers that i installed in my old car in the rear of the hatch. Ive had people asking me if i even have speakers in the back because they really cant hear much.

So I was thinking of cutting out holes in the insert that thing is hooked on so you dont see in the back and stuff , sorry dont know the name of it , this is my first hatch ever but i hope you guys know what im talking about

along with it im installing it with my sub and amp. . .

thisll happen in the next 2 days =) ill post pics to show how its going. . ..

and any comments or opinions will be much appreciated before i start this project tomorrow afternoon

it's not uncommon for a car not to get its peak fuel economy until 10, 20, or even 30k miles have passed.

6-speed or CVT? If it's a 6-speed, and you haven't driven a modern drive-by-wire car, make sure you let off the gas 0.5-1.0 seconds before you start to push in the clutch. The DBW system has some lag and if you do not release the gas a little early, you'll just rev up the clutch a little in neutral, which is a waste of gas.

I'm at 6k and just yesterday I drove from Saint Petersburg, FL to Naples, FL and back (about 300 miles round trip) and I averaged 80 mph all the way down there....until I got 20 miles outside of Naples and everyone goes 10 under the speed limit (retirement community). GRRRRR! Anyhoo, I got about 29.7MPG.

My best recorded tank (34.72 mpg) was a return trip from Eastern Washington, over the mountains. It was approximately a 280 mile one-way trip, cruising at 65 or 70 mph (depending on the speed limit at any given point on the road), and dropping to 55 for the mountain passes (narrower, and more windy roads). I never exceeded 70 mph because I know the 6-speed's fuel economy drops off FAST after that.

Oddly, when you are going east to west is when you are heading INTO the wind.. so not only was I climbing mountains, I was fighting the wind. And still got better mileage than the original trip over.

I'm driving with the CVT but so far as my project who knew that the back cover thing in the hatch was so strong and durable needless to say only thing so far that was done today was cutting out the holes in the board thing and putting the speakers in them and routing the wires from the back doors to connect to the amp

Just ONE question that i have sorry to be bugging For the people that installed amps in their V'swhere did you go about in the firewall for the power cable. . . is that a preexisting hole or must i drill one through the firewall to get to the power cable to the battery. . .

im guessing ill be finished with this project hopefully tomorrow. . . . and will post pics of the process and finished product. and my V will have more sound and bass to it. . .

The grommet where all of the stock wiring goes through right underneath the steering column can easily pass wire through it. The grommet is huge. I passed 0 gauge wire along with a few 12 gauge and 18 gauge wire runs through the thing with tons of space. There is a tutorial of passing wire through the thing in the foglight installation thread but you will want to use a wire hangar to poke a hole in the grommet, tape the wire to the hangar, and pull the hangar/wire back into the car. It was a lot harder to pass 0 gauge wire through the thing but after using a little WD-40 it slipped right through.

I am also in the process of installing a new sound system (already have the sub installed) but have to put it on hold - vacation (un)fortunately.
