Hmm ya that is a pretty horrible description, I forgot to mention I have a megan racing turbo elbow which takes the fat type O2 sensor so I will have to find one of those. I assume that came out of the 94+ S14?

RPS Max Street clutch, you won't be disappointed. You'll spend alittle bit more on it, but well worth the investment. I've got numerous drag passes, clutch kicks and it holds up great.. Chirps them in third at the strip with a basic BPU car...

Alright, I think my brain was in a different zone at the time I didnt really think about that. We don't have an autozone here but Im sure I can find it at somewheres or just order it.

Those are for the non-turbo ZX...

The Bosch part number that I am using on my Blacktop is 13091, and is for a '95 300ZX-TT. It plugs directly into the SR harness, but you may need to extend the wires by ~6" or so. If you do end up having to lengthen the wires, just mind the shielding on the sensor wire, (it's 3 wire, 2 of them are for the heater element) because if one braid of the shielding accidentally gets spliced to the inner wire core it will ground it out and it will run open loop and like crap.

HELP! haha

I have apparently come across a problem with my power steering pump. I picked up what I thought was an S13 SR20DET power steering pump off ebay used at a decent price. Got it here and it came with the bracket too. Mounted it on the engine and then I went to put the belt on and noticed that the pulley on the pump is narrower than the one on the crank pulley. (ie the one on the crank has 4 indent V's where as the one on the pump has 3.) Whats the deal here? Do I have a pump for a different engine or can you swap out the pulley? Im lost, I tried a search but came up empty handed.

If no one knows what im talking about then let me know and I can throw up some pics tomorrow if I have time.

After a further search on ebay I came across an S14 pump:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/JDM-NISSAN-...wItem

Sadly that looks a lot like the one I have. Am I screwed? Time to sell that and get an S13 one if so?

Thanks

as far as i know the p/s pumps for the s13 and s14 sr20det's are exactly the same. sure u mounted it correctly? lining it up with the right pully? take some pics of the pump, bracket and how you have it mounted. i have mine sitting in my living room waiting for it to sell on ebay, so u take the pics and i can compare the two

could be a ka pump? i wanted to use everything off of my ka because it was cleaner but neither the alternator nor the ps pump would work because of the pullys. you could swap the pullys but they're pretty hard to get off unless you have a good way to secure the pump.

Here is a picture of the pump installed. I am certain it was for an SR engine as the bracket it came attached to fits perfectly. I am assuming then that it was for an S14. The pulley is one notch skinnier as you can see than the KA pulley in the pictures. I am borrowing a pulley puller this afternoon to get the HICAS pulley off as it doesnt appear to just come off like the new one did when the nut is removed as there is no nut on the HICAS one? Looking at it though it doesnt look like it will fit on the new pump, maybe its just my eyes playing tricks on me. Anyone got some further input?

k this isnt going so well. It doesnt appear to want to come off the same way the other pulleys do. it doesnt have a bolt with a dent in it like the others. I tried to use a three jaw puller but i tightened it till it started to bend the edge of the pulley and decided that wasnt going to work. (damn) so Im assuming I need something to thread into the middle of the pulley and pull it some how. is there a tool for this or what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

take it to an alternator specialty store. they deal with swapping pullys all the time. when i got my new alternator i took it to a place called SAS and they swapped pullys for me for 2 bucks in less than 5 minutes

Touche... lol. I don't know why that didnt occur to me to try that. I may just try and get a three rib belt in town from a shop. If I cant find one the right size, is the belt I need the PS belt from an S14?

Also, got the heater hoses installed today as well as finished cleaning/degreasing the engine recently. Hopefully the front and rear main seals get here in the next few days along with the turbo elbow and O2 sensor.

I imagine all you would need is an S14SR power steering belt.

Dug around the webs for a bit and found 3PK875, which is a part number for some OMGJDM! Kevlar reinforced belt. You may be able to take that number to Napa and have them decipher / cross reference it to something in stock?

Alright. Small update:

Belt came in and fits well, I think it should work and solve my pulley problem which is nice.

Still waiting on oil seals, hopefully on tuesday.

Mean while im working on the wiring harness, its going well and just have the MAF plug to extend and it will be done.

Small question: What do most people do with the exhaust manifold heat shield? I suppose it probably has its purpose but is it significant? It really is a bit of an eyesore when its patchy and rusted like mine but if it means saving burning the paint or hoses or what not then Ill put it back on. Anyone?

All for now.

Good work.

For the heat sheild, I'd suggest keeping it until you have a reason to get rid of the stock manifold. If you have or have access to a bench grinder with a wire wheel, clean it up and spray it with a few coats of high temp silver, or flat black or something. A rusty cast iron header doesn't look any better exposed anyway, in my opinion. Without it you might end up cooking the vent lines for the crank case fumes, which is what happened to me.

The lower heat Shields will hit the steering shaft. Unless your RHD. I painted my stock exhaust mani silver with high temp 1200 degree paint and removed all the heat shields.

thx guys. I think Ill clean up the manifold shield a bit and take Neil's recommendation and hit it with some high temp paint.

Time for a small picture update:

Five hours and a few burn incidents with the soldering iron and out comes one SR ready wiring harness.

Only plug im confused about is the one just left of center with the cap attached to it. (Closeup below)

This guy here, whats it for?

Dash plug replaced

Extended MAF Plug

Cleaned engine with painted manifold shield and oil catch dealy

Front: should have cleaned before I took the pulley off yesterday. oops haha

Close up

Heater hoses on, not yet trimmed to fit.

Thats about all for now till my stupid oil seals and turbo elbow come in then I can get those on and drop the engine down, put the clutch and flywheel on and drop it all in the car. Rest of the parts are here waiting to be installed. Anyone know what that cap like plug is for though? Oil or sometime?

Heat shield looks good!

That cap though is a mystery. On RHD cars the harness is routed through the opposite side of the firewall, and since it's close to the firewall plug it probably means it's for something on the exhaust side of the engine bay. I was thinking power steering, because it mentions something about fluid and a dipstick and the engine being cold like the regular power steering cap does.. but I've got a photo of a legit 180sx engine bay and I don't see that cap anywhere. My harness has at least 1 plug with nothing on it in that area as well, so .. /shrug

That one positron.

But ya im thinking it may not be that important as I cant really see anywhere for it to go unless someone can prove me wrong.

Thanks
