Car: 06 G35 Coupe

Post

Hey everyone, last week I purchased an 06 G35 coupe. Laser red with graphite interior, 19" sport wheel package, and all options except factory Navigation system and satellite radio. So far, I am really loving the car. I do have two questions about features, one is listed in the manual and the other is not. For the one not mentioned in the manual, is there any way(besides aftermarket modules) to get the doors to lock automatically either when put in gear or when hitting a certain speed? This seems to be a love-it or hate-it feature, but every other car I have ever owned has had auto locks so I guess I'm spoiled to not having to think about locking the doors once I drive away. So, to the second question which is the automatic drive positioner. Mine has the premium package(itelligent key, memory seats, Bose, power steering column, etc), however, I cannot get the seat to move back and the steering wheel up when turning the car off. The memory functions work when I press the button(or use linked remote), but I cannot get the seat to move to the exit position automatically. I tried the instructions in the manual(hold set button for 10 seconds with ignition in lock) and it doesn't work. I even took it to the dealer and they said that mine did not have this feature. While that may be the case, everything I can find on 06s is that this feature is part of the premium package which mine has. BTW, it is an automatic. If anyone knows for sure whether I am supposed to have this feature or not and how to activate it if I do, please let me know.

The doors locking at a certain speed is a feature controlled by the BCM, it is on 09 and up infiniti cars. They lock when you reach 10 mph so no one hops out of their BMW to rob you. ( G_whizz)The ADP I believe should only move the seat back. I never noticed the steering wheel raise, only on the M and FX, but I'll check when I see one. Make sure the switch on the side of the seat isn't on cancel. When you turn off the car and key out, the seat should slide back. It should slide up when you put the key to on.

How difficult/expensive would it be to add the auto door lock feature? I would love to have that. There again, I live in a city with one of the highest crime rates in the nation.

You can get a module to do this, seems to me it was somewhere around $50 ( or less) for everything you needed.

To me it would depend on if you wanted this to be speed sensitive or not. One easy way out would be to just sense when out of park with the emergency brake off for example but you probably want a little more than that. I was surprised that the G did not have this as all of my lesser cars have it.

I would like to add this feature to my car along with some better control over the auto setting of the headlights. For example on my other car if the lights are in auto and it starts to rain the lights will come on regardless of the amount of daylight. Second if you leave the lights in auto on my G they will light and go out as you drive under overpasses, or into areas with trees. There should be some sort of time figured into this. You can change the sensitivity (somewhat) but not the time of the event that triggers it.

I was really surprised that it didn't come on it either. I can't remember the last time I had a car that didn't automatically lock the doors.

Thanks for the info.

As for the auto steering column movement, i have an 05, and it does it, but it's rather like some kind of voodoo to get it to work, it may not do anything if your column is in the raised (enough) position already. Pretty sure mine raises when you open the door, not when you turn the car off.

I'll play with it when i get a chance, to see if i can replicate

There is no auto exit feature on a coupe, at least not if your 06 is like my 08 G37 coupe. Apparently the engineers were scared that a rear seat passenger would get crushed by this feature. If you are the only driver program button 1 for your driving position and button 2 for an exit position. A small pain in the a** but at least then you don't have to move the seat manually to exit the car.
