You are missing the point. First off the power loss (Nissan) between an automatic and a manual is quite a bit. Your drivetrain is terrible at getting the power to the pavement. A manual 350z/G35 loses about 25%. That is the difference between the 285 HP that is rated at the crank, and the 214 HP that is actually at the tires on the dyno. You can guarantee that the automatic has at least another 5% loss if not more.
A Transmission used in a high performance drag car (Pro Street or Super Street) is in many cases, a highly built Powerglide Transmission. If not that, I would say that a Turbo350 or 400 is the next choice, however the amount of money invested in those is rediculous. They still lose in the 15% range on the HP.
If you want to have some fun on the weekends, enjoy your car at the drag strip. If you want to have a drag car, buy a classic American muscle car with a big block. If you want to drag race an Import, buy a Honda, gut it so it weighs nothing, and build the hell out of it.
The 350z is not a drag car. Especially not with an automatic.
