Hey guys... I bought my convertible about 2-3 months ago and JUST discovered this forum area. I figured I would introduce myself and my car. I'm a 28-year old web-designer/retailer and live in Portland OR. I earn my living running a site similar to this one for Scions (http://www.scionlife.com).

The car: 1992 Nissan 240SX that was a single owner from San Fran

Black top / 5-speed conversion completed this week- Apex'i intake and GT-Spec exhaust- GReddy downpipe- Cat eliminated

Upgraded suspension- Five-lug conversion with 350Z wheels- KYB AGX adjustable struts- Susp Tech springs and swaybar set- Z32 LSD

To do:- Upgrade seats- Create and install custom rollbar

It's obvious that most of the Silvia guys scoff at convertibles, but there is no reason that I can't have some fun while enjoying the sun! Not looking to win D1, just looking to scare those Civic kids. :)

Hey there, Melted. I'm not sure why, but there seems to be a good number of 240 verts in the Portland area. I live in SW Portland, and I've seen two other black ones besides mine around (I don't think either was yours), a red one, and at least one white one. Considering there were only around 450 made (is that correct...that's what I was told, but don't know if it's true?), that's pretty good representation for Portland.

There had to be more than 450 made. Anyone have solid figures on this? If that is the real number then you are absolutely right!

i don't have any concrete numbers, but 240 convertibles aren't THAT rare.

the most concrete number i've heard was 3000. my guess is closer to 4000 from the ratio of verts i've seen in my town and on these forums. Also, the inside of my door lists the production number over 1000, so it can't be 3000 (assuming only a 1000 were made every year)

I wonder who could tell us.

Maybe ASC? Bart, don't you have a contact with them?

I tried ASC. Talked to a guy named Mike Roach (i think that was his first name at least). Anyways, he said that they didn't have the information on file, and if they did, he wasn't allowed to give it out. The excuse smelled, so I just dropped it. Car companies hold onto their sales figures like they were the secret direction to pirate booty.

I also ran into the same pitfall when I was doing some research on the cost of the Mustang. Ford wouldn't give me production figures, nor manufacturer costs. That really threw a monkey wrench in my marketing project.

Yeah, I don't know for sure, that's what someone told me a while back, but it seemed like it might be low. Maybe they were saying that there were only 450 built in 1992? I wonder what the real figures were and if there's any way to find out?

450 in 92 would still be innaccurate. my car's a 92 and the ASC prod number is 1054

But, does anyone know if ASC used consecutive numbers for all of the 240 verts, or if they just use sequential numbers on all the cars they modify? So, while mine is #221, could a Camaro, or other vehicle, be #222?

i doubt that they wouldn't have used sequential numbers for all the cars they do. it would be easiest for inventory to know how many of a particular line was done, so I would think that the numbers would be model specific
