I just bought a 138k mile 1994 Q45t off of ebay. I love the car and got a great deal on it, but as I expected it has a couple little problems.

-It sounds like the HVAC blower is whining at any speed except for low. If it is the blower motor, do I have to pull the dash to replace it?

-Odometer flickers sometimes. Is this common?

-Radio display does not light up, Is there an easy fix for this instead of replacing the unit?

-Intermittent "sqwonk" noise from right front suspension during articulation, could this be a strut bushing or ?

-Where is the CD changer supposed to be located? Is the changer standard on the Q45t?

-Small oil drip on to the drivers side exhaust header, I didn't look hard, but I'm guessing valve cover gasket. Is this probably correct?

I am a very competent mechanic, but most of my experience was with really old cars, or new cars at Ford and Chrysler dealerships. I have rebuilt engines and automatic trannies before and done too many engine swaps and custom jobs to count.

I always thought it was more of a pent roof combustion chamber design.

Four or more valves in a true hemispherical combustion chamber head would have some weird non-parallel valve stem angles requiring a very complicated actuation mechanism.

Fred is right on!!!

Drivers side valve cover is easy..... I can guide you through that ive done it..... Easy DIY......

For no3, Ive heard of it here, but its not an common problem.... As long as the odo is still fine, I wouldnt bother with it IMO...

6. Its in the trunk but you will have to investigate which conector you have... Some you will need the 10cd sony (Icky) changer, others the 6.... I know Fred's Q is an early 94, and mine is a late.. I have the 6cd.....

Very very nearly hemisspherical ,not <quite> but very close. Its easier to just say hemispherical.

Yeah, there are few true hemispherical heads. Even my 1972 Alfa Romeo has a slightly different design on the outboard and inboard chambers. One pair is more a slight triple-hemispheical design (centered about the each valve and the plug) where the other is a true hemisphere. __________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

Thanks for all the help.

Is the CD changer behind one of the panels in the trunk, or is it supposed to be in plain sight? I think someone may have walked off with it at the dealership. I may end up replacing the entire system with a sattelite radio / CD changer if too much is missing.

I am truly amazed at the engine, all this usable power out of 4.5 liters. No wonder it needs premium gas (all of 91 octane here in California).

I don't have a FSM, I ordered one off of ebay and ended up with a pirated copy of a Mitchell manual for imports. It's not bad, but the best tool I had at the dealership was reference materials. I do like the fact that it covers all of the imports so I can help my coworkers with their Hondas, etc.

The car also did not come with owner's manuals which makes figuring out all the buttons a fun game. I'll try to find those on ebay as well, I guess.

#3,odometer flickers sometimes,if you are referring to the message center display that acts as 2 trip meters, and other messages such as open door, low fuel, etc, there are 2 replacable light bulbs that illuminate the display messages, can be obtained at dealer, must disassemble dash to get at.if you decide to tackle this,go ahead and replace EVERY bulb in the entire dash assembly ,labor is the bear here, the bulbs are inexpensive and easy to replace once you get to them!

Mine is in plain sight on the right side of the trunk, fastened from the top. The CD manual is a nice-to-have, but NO substitute for the FSM.

The CD should be sufficient from what I've seen.

Other than fold-out wiring diagrams, it looks to be as complete.

p.s. Psychic - I have some friends that live in San Clemente: The Beierle's (they run a couple pharmacies in town).

The factory install is in the right corner of the trunk floor. It includes brackets and a cover and the 10 CD Sony player. The (usually 6 CD) players hanging under the rear parcel trays are dealer installations in 1994-1996 Q45.

They were always optional, but frequently included in factory builds.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

DAE has a 90 Q, and the 90-93 Q (and early 94's) had the 10-disc Sony changer suspended from the parcel shelf.

Actually, this is a much smarter arangement. The "on-end" installation causes many of the inherent problems.

I would have to say the factory in the corner one is a lot better than the under the shelf one in terms of isolation mounting, but that location results in greater motion and more force than the under parcel tray mounting.

My comments pertain only to the later 1994-1996 run of G50 Q45 that I have seen. My one in TX has never had a problem with me (once on service history), but my Seattle one has locked at least 3 times on me.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45
