Get manual, Chilton/haynes.
Lube suspension, take your time so you don't break any barbs and have to replace more stuff.
Check out the condition of the bushings for suspension and the bed to frame. Note the condition and when you have available funds, hit up rockauto and get some cheaper maintanance stuff out of the way.
Check your fluids.
