Problem is the odometer reads 9999999, temp is pegged, fuel is pegged, and my speedometer doesn't move from zero. I've cleaned all the connections, even cleaned the connection with the circuit strip behind the speedo. Pretty sure a new cluster is needed...

Anyone deal with this yet???

98, 5-speed, 2wheel ka24de.

Also, can I add a tach? Be great if I could take and swap a 240 se cluster in there.

Nissan does not offer an entire replacement cluster, and the part that you probably need (the printed circuit board) is not available from Nissan either. Rumor is there's a shop in Tampa that can remanufacture your existing unit, but other than that, you'll be junkyard shopping.

No luck so far with JY's. As far as the rebuilder goes... I know of someone local that said he got ripped off. I don't have the extra bills to chance it. I'm just going to have look the board over and hope i find something bad.

Well today I learned as I broke down and was stuck on the side of the interstate for half an hour. You cannot drive without your gauges, at least not for more than 2 days. When you do that the metering device isn't hooked up and this will disable you alternator from charging.

But I was able to fix my bad gauges with just a soldering iron, tweezers, small philipps and some shears. The big issue was the flex circuit strip behind the speedo and the reason the speedo didn't move or moved very little was the itty bitty wires on the motor were broken from 160,000 miles of vibration from normal driving.

If you never soldered a microchip before do not do it.

Good job... it feels good to fix something like that instead of part swapping.

No need to get snotty about it. We just try to protect all the members in here by verifying people who offer services on NICO.

Here's a link to a guy I know selling the gauge cluster from a 2001. it should physically fit in a 1998.
