93 j30 infinity owner mileage 102,900 just bought last month, due for oil change soon. Any suggestions on oil. Do you suggest synthetic? And if so what type (5w, 10w)brand?

Thanks

Anything that meets manufacturers specs will do, which would be just about any name brand oil. The owners manual (you should read it if you have it) recommends 10W30 for most driving conditions. If you can get synthetic at a good price use it, but its probably not worth paying a premium for, especially if you change your oil every 3000 miles.

I've used synthetic Mobil1 since new. Never had a problem. I think my fuel economy is slightly better with synthetic. Use 10w30 in the spring/summer/fall and 5w20 in winter. Use a good quality filter (i.e. NAPA Gold, Delco, MOPAR, Wix) stay away from Fram crap (i.e. Fram, Honeywell, Quaker State), they're poorly put together filters. I cut one open awhile ago and was appalled. Eveything is held together with cheap glue and there wasn't an anti drainback valve.

Adding a bit of synthetic quickly quieted a noisey lifter and later I switched to all-synthetic at my next oil and filter change. I believe that my mpg also improved.

I've heard that several filter-only changes between complete oil plus filter changes can be used to reduce the cost of using synthetic oil, as synthetic oil doesn't break down like standard stuff. And with the rising cost of crude oil, the choice may get even simpler, before we all give up driving completely.
