Hi,

Im new to this forum and I dont know much about speakers so I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

I have a 2008 Altima coup 2.5S without a BOSE system and I have been reading up on some old posts about which speakers to get. Most of you seem to agree that the Infinity Kappas work for everyday use. I dont want anything too powerful, but I am getting tired of the constant distortion coming from the stock speakers at high volumes. (I listen to my music loud constantly). I was wondering which speakers, either the kappas or not, would be good without having to buy an amp right now.

Also, I went to Crutchfield and read about the dash speakers and I was wondering if most of the distortion was coming from those or the other speakers. It seems to me like the dash speakers cant handle the high volumes due to their small size, but what do i know? lol.

Can someone please help me out??

The Kappas are certainly not terrible. Many people think they can be a bit bright (harsh on the high treble). It should be somewhat easy to find an Infinity dealer somewhere near you to listen to them first (it's all a matter of opinion, some prefer bright and some prefer more natural). No matter what you go with, an amp is a good idea and would be worth the investment at some point (though just swapping in speakers should sound noticeably better than the stock paper ones - until maybe at those high volumes where they just aren't getting enough power).

As far as the distortion goes, it could be coming from a lot of places. The dash speakers are intended to handle the high frequencies, though they are too large to do so accurately. The door speakers are intended to handle the low frequencies, but paper drivers are certainly not the best at dipping down to the lowest frequencies. Finally, the deck cannot put out that much power, so cranking the volume will lead to distortion there. It could easily be a combination of all of the above.

Which speakers are you looking to replace? And, more importantly, what's the budget?

specifically the fronts and dash, i dont need a lot of bass and ill probably get an amp later so im not gonna worry about the rear ones just yet.

Im thinking about replacing the head unit as well...thinking about maybe a kenwood?

My budget is not a lot since im paying for college atm, so around 100-150 for each is around what im willing to spend for now.

Hello Maxaronnie, Welcome to the site.Check out this post:http://forums.altimas.org/zerothread?id=437323I just suggested all the parts together for that guy. As for a head unit, I'd say go to BestBuy or something and just find a unit that you like. I looked at Crutchfild HU's but once I played with them I was like "No way.." User friendly-ness is a big part it. You gotta try it in person 1st.

Also be sure to get a HU with 3 RCA outs for (just in case) you want to upgrade in future or add on. Another thing to consider if you want to keep steering wheel controls to get a unit that has the adapter for it. Kenwoods do and that that brand I went with.

Are you going to be installing yourself or bringing it somewhere. If bringing then make sure to buy all the extra parts like, wiring harness, antenna adapter, mounting kit, your own RCA cables so you don't get burned by store prices. (3x~4x as much)

Also check out what I put together and the prices I got everything at here.http://forums.altimas.org/zerothread?id=431683I did go with Infinity Kappas all around but you definitely need an amp to push them.

My major thing I don't like about them is I found I they had very little bass. Actually much less than the stock speakers so I have to go with now a 2nd amp and sub box.But in terms of clarify of highs they really are nice. Sometimes a little too bright where it makes you close your eyes or flinch.

Thank you so much for being so helpful!

I looked at the thread and those speaker adapters will def come in handy with most speakers i was looking at

Also, do you think its hard to install component speakers yourself?? My boyfriend can do wire splicing and sodering but im not sure how easy it is to get to the speakers...do u know?

I didn't do the install my self. I brought it somewhere but after watching the guy do the install I saw how easy it was. I didn't get component so I don't know how easy it is to access the deck speakers. I think you can just pop open the plastic grill covering the deck speakers with a screw driver and then access them with a right angle screw driver. I was looking for pics if anyone did this but never found it.

The door panels come off relatively easily. The dash speakers are more than simple to get to. A flathead will remove the grille, but getting the speaker screws out is a pain due to the windshield. I also think you need to remove the pillar finisher to get to the grilles. The service manual is floating around somewhere, and it has step-by-step directions to take the entire car apart. Definitely do the install yourself. It wont take that long (and we're here to help!).
