the distributor goes on the EXACT same you took it off. It can't be off even just a little bit. although i havent replaced one on a 720 that's how it was on other cars. honestly wouldnt even know what you wold do if the other one still isn't on

A haynes manual would help, but here goes. The oil pump shaft should have a notch on the top. the dizzy shaft that slides into the o/p has a small hole in it that lines up with the notch. slide it in and just start the bolts in the o/p. Now look into the dizzy hole with a good light, the tab on the end of the shaft should be at the 11:25 o'clock position with the bigger surface to the right (the tab is slightly off center). You may have to r/r the o/p 2-3 times to get it right but that's where it has to be. Once you achieve that, put dizzy in and hook it all back up, adjust dizzy timing with a light (vac on dizzy pulled and plugged) . Set and go driving. :woot: :inout:
Maybe this will point you in the right direction :mike

Sorry I was a little late. Do you mean a piston hitting a valve? If so, it's not timed right at the chain. That's very bad as in bent valves, hopefully that's not the case .

You got the car together and hear valves? thats horribly bad. This is an interference motor with a dual row chain, it will destroy its valves if to far off.

Sorry but you will probably have to reset it to TDC and set the timing chain. I pretty sure if you are off by one tooth its not that bad and can may be corrected by turning the dizzy, more than that and it will run pretty horrible.

The oil pump is pretty self-explanatory line up notch to the marking and remember it kinda turns when it slides in so it seems weird and might take a couple tries to get it sitting in the right tooth. always checking that dizzy fits the pump and its firing the #1 cylinder with the rotor. if it points any where else, redo the oil pump until it is.

yup, remove cover and the timing chain, you've got to be off a couple teeth! make sure you go by the book, always have it at tdc and check all of your timing marks when ever you do anything with the dizzy/timing chain or its a b**** to get right!!
