here's the subs im planning on getting:http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1...p=111(im getting 2)

and heres the amp 1 of the representatives recommended me to get to power them: Rockford Fosgate Punch P500-1bdhttp://www.crutchfield.com/p_5....html

would this really work?

both speakers are 275RMS so x2 would =550RMS

amp - •200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)•500 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm

sorry if my post is confusing, im not too familiar with all of this.

The Doc is more familiar with RF products than I, so I can't speak to the quality of that amp. However, in terms of powering the speakers...

You should wire both voicecoils of each speaker in parallel (instructions should be included with the subs) so that each speaker yields a 2-ohm load. Then, wire both subs in parallel to the amp. This will mean the amp is seeing a final 1-ohm load and should output 500 watts RMS (where the pair of subs can handle 500 watts RMS as you stated). So yes, it will work.

Were you planning on purchasing everything from Crutchfield? There are cheaper sources out there, but Crutchfield is amazing when it comes to customer support/returns/etc (and all warranties should be honored). If you can shell out a touch more money, you can get far better products. For example, a pair of Image Dynamics ID10's ($160 each - so $320) and a Sundown Audio SAZ-1000D ($280). I know that comes to $600 for the subs/amp rather than $480, but it is a far better setup in my opinion. Also, that's only one example - there are plenty more around that price range...

so wouldnt that RF amp be under powering the subs? its will be putting out 500 watts, but the 2 speakers altogether will need 550 watts.

i dont know...more headaches

Yes, technically you could go slightly higher. It's doubtful you'd notice that much of a difference. Also, you'll be hard pressed to find an amp that puts out exactly 550 watts at 1 ohm.

well, I don't think you have to worry about underpowering the subs... rockford usually underestimates the power in their amps a bit, even in their punch line of amplifiers...

I would say, when you get the birthsheet, you will find that that amp probably actually produces anywhere in between 650 and 700 watts RMS at 1 ohm. as mentioned in this ebay add

http://cgi.ebay.com/Rockford-F...%3A50

that's not marketing hype, its what Rockford has ALWAYS done with their amplifiers... its their signature...

for example, the T1000-1bd amplifiers is suppoped to do 1000 watts at 1 ohms, but it actually produces about 1600 watts at 1 ohm... I know, this makes it difficult for folks that don't know about Rockford to accurately set up a sub amp combination. THis is often why many folks use to blow their speakers in the early days of RTockford fosgate when car audio was really taking off.. anyway, I think its mainly done because all amp manufacturers test their amplfiers at 14.4 volts... but in a real world aplication, your car's voltage probably drops down to 12.5 - 13.5 volts. So if you think you're getting 1000 watts RMS from an amp that claims 1000 watts, you aren't .. not in a real world setting when your car's electrical system is under load. So, if Rockford produces an amp that says 500 watts @ 1 ohm, you can be sure that in real world applications, your speakers will always be gettign AT LEAST 500 watts RMS power, even when the battery's voltage drops! Hope this all makes sense! And good luck with your purchase!
