Car: 1992 300zx - currently on an engine and transmission pull

Post

hey guys!
im working on my z and currently ready to take the engine out with the transmission together. I have followed this link with exception of de-mating the transmission from the engine ----

http://diy.icydesigns.com/article/170/N ... WqvdFxVikp

as im slowly hoisting up, the chassis seems to come up with the engine like its still stuck on something. the nuts on either side on the motor mounts are off. and from under the car, it seems that the engine with transmission would clear in an up & forward careful motion. anybody have any ideas on what the issue could be? it is my first engine pull-any suggestions, knowledge, prior experiences would be much appreciated.

The chassis will come up a little when you pull the engine. The engine weighs a ton, so as you remove it, the springs in the car will decompress and raise.
If you're lifting it to the point that the wheels are coming off the ground, then yeah, that's a problem.

as far as the chassis rising to the point where the wheels come up as well, what would you say it is still attached to? because ive looked and that procedure ive followed seemed more than enough to sever the engine from the bay. thank you btw for replying.

Have you removed the transmission mount?

Check:
Trans X-member
Trans shifter mount (under shift boot)
Heater Hoses
bell housing clearing trans tunnel

I've done this twice with engine and trans attached and its a up an inch forward and inch, up an inch forward an inch exercise. My most recent pull I separated the trans from the engine and dropped it under the car before hoisting the engine and it was 100 times easier, all you need is a floor jack and a universal joint with about 3 feet of extensions to get to the two top trans bolts

no, im keeping the transmission attached to the engine - reason being that the 2 top bolts will not budge. ive got the xmember off and detached the 1 bolt and nut from the shifter. so the only thing keeping the transmission attached to the engine are the 10 14mm bolts on the bell housing to the engine. ive removed the nuts from under the motor mounts (those 2 on either side should be the only nuts holding the engine down right?) and when i hoist up the chassis seems to come with, is this maybe because of the weight of the engine and transmission combined? that i just need to hoist more to let it raise up from the motor mount brackets?
