So I finally managed to get my J30's stuck driver's door open, but my mechanic says I need a new Driver Side Front Door Latch Assembly. I've been having real trouble turning one up. Does anybody have a good source I should try, or better yet have one for sale from a parts car or stash or something? Does anybody know if this is the official part name and/or have the original part number? I would be most grateful for any help.

UPDATE: I think I found a part that will work. Does anybody know if the actuator and latch assembly from the rear driver door will work for the front driver door? I just can't find the exact driver door part anyplace. I've also read that the Nissan Maxima from that era shares a lot of parts with the J30. Anybody know if the latch, etc, would be compatible? Thanks.

The I30 and the Maxima share a lot of parts. Less for the J30 and Maxima, but door latches should be interchaneable unless Renault insisted on French non sharing.

Did the Maxima latch work? I also had the same idea, about using the rear driver door latch. Did that work? I am having the same problem. Driver's front door is frozen and I can't find the latch assembly new or used.

Sadly, no. I was finally able to find a whole driver's side door and bought it just to rob the door latch assembly. Even so my mechanics had to cut the interior panel to get the stuck door open. They patched it up decently, but it would cost a fortune to get it looking new again. Wish I had better news for you.

My advice is to look for a driver's door as I did, because a lot of salvage yards evidently keep doors more often than random parts. Make sure it's complete, though. Often a door listing will be just the body, with no interior panel or parts. Good luck!

Thanks for the update. That's too bad. I was hoping that at least it would be possible to use the rear door latch for the front. Also trying to find an entire door to source parts from. Thanks for the update.

In case it's any use, a tip about trying a pry bar instead of cutting through the interior:

My door latch started working so I have not tried it.
