I am looking for the speedometer parts that go on the transmission and allow me to attach the cable to the transmission. I have the gear in the transmission but i need the flange that attached to it that goes around the the threaded part and should convert the drive to a 1/4" square drive cable. Any information would be great as this is an ASAP time line for me to get my speedometer up and running.

Thanks for the help

i have an autometer gauge and i have the 1/4 square drive cable already. It threads on to the transmission but i think there is plate of some time that screws around the threads and locks that part down. also it should have the "adapter" that allows the cable to spin. Right now the cable just goes into a spring looking thing that is bigger then the cable and i was told that the stock part that is missing brings that down to the 1/4 square drive

thanks for all the help

Okay. Now you're confusing me. Are you saying you already have the appropriate cable? Where did you get it from? Autometer?

And you have a pinion gear. Do you mean the whole assembly or just the gear?

The pinion gear assembly just presses into the transmission. There is a small metal tab that slips into that small notch and holds it in place. If you do have the whole assembly, the cable should just screw onto the assembly. If not, you'll need to contact Autometer about an adapter.

If this doesn't answer the question, then pictures would help.

I have a cable the screws onto the transmission and is the correct 1/4 square cable that autometer uses. It is not an autometer cable it is a "universal" cable witht he correct thread on both ends. On the transmission side when i look at it and ill take pictures asap but it has the thread part on the transmission but that part spins. It looks like there is supposed to be a bracket that holds that tight and that piece from what im told adapts to the 1/4 square drive. i might be totaly off here so i was hoping some one would know what size the 300zx takes stock.

thanks

You really need to relook at it. You aren't describing it right.

The transmission has a large hole in the rear end of it.The pinion gear assembly slips into the hole. There is a piece of metal that slips into the groove that holds it into place. There is a bolt that holds this piece of metal in place. The cable screws to the pinion gear assembly.

I think the confusion is that nissan doesn't use a 1/4" square drive cable, if you look at a stock cable you'll see taht it's round with one small "barb" that engages it in the gear assy, I'd think the origional dime cable would be the same as I believe all 70-86's have this configuration, if you want to use aftermarket perhaps a digital with a trigger wheel on the driveshaft would be a better solution?
