the guy at the machine shop said he thought that the detonation caused the spark plugs to melt and push them back with all that pressure

im not sure, thats the first thing im checking when i get the car back in working order with the turbo on a stock motor. I didnt have a fuel pressure gauge but now i have one.My plan of attack is to check the base fuel pressure with hose disconnected. It should be at 43.5 psi at idle. Before I turn up the boost the next time, I will be at the dyno and will make sure my fuel pressure is not dropping under boost. Fuel pump will be sent off to RC engineering. I have a brand new Walbro now. Im not sure if the old one was a true 300zx TT fuel pump. IT had the same casing and design of a genuine I saw based on pictures. Who knows. I want some closure on what caused me to detonate. Could be fuel pump, could be stock fpr out of whack.

Does anyone know how to test the octane of gas? I was on Empty and then filled up with 93 right before I detonated. Im just curious if it was really 93 octane.

I didnt feel like I was cutting corners before hand but now that I look at it, I feel really bad about the whole ordeal cuz of the time and money put into the motor and then something tuning related threw it all out of whack and BOOM!

When you get on the dyno and have got all the parameters set to where they should be, just raise the boost 1 psi at a time while monitoring the AF and knock readings. If you blew the motor up at 14psi, then you have bad AF readings and knock well before then. Don't let ur AF ratio get leaner then 12.5/1 and you don't want any knock at all, unless your ECU is programed to remove a certain amount of timing per knock cycle. Best of luck, I'm very interested on what caused ur meltdown.

If the ring lands broke, The first thing id do would be to call JE. I know that detonation caused it, but I have a hard time believing that they went so easily. Stock pistons, ring lands dont go that fast, and thats pretty much the weak point of the motor. Wierd.See if a refund or replacement set is do-able. That way you could either sell the JE's to re-coup some cash spent, or build it back up.
