Post

Hi. New to the forum. New to the Rogue. New to the Nissan brand (25-year Volkswagen owner, actually).

Picked up my Iridium Graphite Rogue SL AWD (premium/black leather/moonroof) this morning and promptly put 100 miles on it on a perfect sunroof day.

The trip computer, which I reset after the dealer filled it up, shows 27.5 mpg average using 87 octane pure unleaded. I will keep statistics from both manual calculations and the trip computer separately in the mileage thread and also specify which gas I'm using. 87 and 91 pure octane, and 89 E10 are the most common blends here. I plan to try them all and reset the MPG on the trip computer at each fillup.

The car was purchased at Hummel's Nissan in Des Moines for $26,232 using the Costco program. Hummel's is a Nissan exclusive dealership that does a pretty good volume (last Saturday, they moved 41 cars). Hummel's had 22 Rogues in stock. I've seen as many as 30 Rogues in stock at one time when using the "search inventory" tool at nissanusa.com, while the other Iowa dealers never seem to have more than five. The only Rogue color I haven't seen in stock there is the orange, which I saw in the flesh at a Minnesota dealer last weekend. NOT an appealing color.

Hummel's swaps a lot of cars with other regional dealers. Mine was originally at the Council Bluffs dealership. I saw at least a couple of other Rogues with stickers from dealerships in Iowa and Nebraska.

The sales rep said they were originally approached by Costco when they came into the market a few years ago but declined to participate, then changed their mind when re-approached a year later. He says they immediately wished they'd done so originally as the program very quickly paid for itself. They get quite a few sales through that channel. He also said they sell quite a few Rogues to walk-ins at MSRP thanks to demand. I wouldn't say I got any sort of a bargain at $26,232, but I really liked getting a reasonable price without having to fight for it.

Say! Look what they had in the showroom...

(No, it's not really for sale).

Was cross-shopping this against the forthcoming VW Tiguan, which I got to test drive at Burnsville VW (MN) last weekend. But the Tiguan looks like it's going to be priced more like a conservative Murano competitor, and gas mileage appears to check in about there too. The Rogue proved more favorable based on projected Tig pricing, mileage, available features, and transmissions. I REALLY liked the CVT on the test drive.
