My new ride '84 300zx, couple Q.'s

i just got an 84 300zx, its got the 3.0lv6 turbo, wondering what other cars have the same engine, i need a new pully on my crank, as well im wondering about any exterior body work for this car, kits etc, also, mine has something i havent seen on any other cars, on the headlights there are angled slats here see the pic

not sure, but got a sweet deal on the car, $800 Can, only problem is the pully, and brakes, so ya if you got any answers that'd be great, any pics of your 300zx and your alterations definitely welcome

hardbody V6's, pathfinders, maxima's of similar years, they aren't turbo but the same VG30 block

the louvered headlight covers are still available from MSA and VB

The motors from 84 - 89 are pretty much identical for turbo / non turbo 300zx's, except for small changes. (turbos went water-cooled in 85. 88 and 89 got a different turbo. T25 I think.)You can yank the pully from a junk car without much of a problem I would think.

Ones from Japan will probably cost you more than the car is worth mostly because they have completely different fenders, and the shipping is outrageous. I called one time and the total price for the widebody kit was somewhere in the $5k neighborhood. Looks sweet though.

Are the headlight louvers metal or plastic? If they are the metal ones, take care of them. You can't really find them anymore.

You will most likely need a crank pulley from a turbo Z31. The belts are different between NA and turbo on the Z31s. I'm not sure what belt types the other VGs use. In 4/87 the Z came with the W-series engine. I believe that a w-series crank pulley will work on an A/B series engine. However, I have heard of some issues with that due to a slightly different crank snout design, has something to do with the key if memory serves. I'm sure that evildky will correct me if I'm wrong here.

I've yet to hear of someone who's gotten a free replacement there. Do you personally know anyone who got theirs replaced?

The only active recall is the fuel injector service campaign.

Besides, he never said there was a problem with the lights. He was asking what the louvers were.
