Hey everyone, I'm a lurker on NICO, I read alot and have been trying to have fun with my cars and the info on here has been valuable. I finally got my 240 running and driving and got it on the road tonight. Heres my problem, I don't know what a 240 with 200 crank horsepower should feel like, lol, can anyone on here give me an idea? I own a '93 300z NA which honestly isn't "fast" but should a 240 with a 200 hp. be able to keep up or pass it up? I also own a '91 240sx SE, totally stock 5 speed car. There is no doubt that my project car is faster than my "stock" car, here is the whole story:

I bought a wrecked '91 S13 coupe about a year ago I think, it was gold and was a base model. I bought it because I had suspicions that the engine was either just rebuilt or built up. After I took the engine out of the car, I removed the oil pan for inspection and found out that it had Wiseco forged pistons installed and the engine had VERY recently been rebuilt. Before I pulled the engine out of the car I did a compression test and it showed 200 PSI perfectly across the board (thats on a warm engine, not cold). One of my problems is that I did not build the engine, so I have no idea what was done inside other than what was noticeable which was the forged pistons and the obviously higher compression. I did not buy the car from the owner who wrecked it, instead I bought it from a salvage auction, so I may never know who the owner was. Sorry for the long story, but to wrap it up, I recently bought a '89 hatchback and changed it over to a DOHC manual trans. While I was at it I threw in a OBX header and a good catback and a J30 LSD. I just took my real first drive in the car tonight, it runs very well (a little loud with the exhaust though), but I did expect a little more from the engine in the lower rpms. I have no access to a dyno, and the nearest performance shop that I trust is about 2 hours from me and I don't have the time as of now to go there and get it dynoed to see what its putting out. Anyways, my driving impressions tonight were definately different than I expected, the engine does not seem to have terribly much power down low (feel a little stronger than stock) but from about 4500-6500rpms it really begins to haul and the engine seriously seems to like the 6k rpm mark, it pulls like mad around that point. It feels fairly equal to my Z in overall acceleration. I'm running stock sized wheels and tires right now, but with the LSD it actually launches very well with very little tire spin. Sorry for the long post guys, this has been a project of mine for about 5 months in the making and now that its at least driving, I wanted to share my results with others and see if other peoples results have been similar. I'm not dissapointed with it overall at this point, it seems like it will be a fun car to drive once I get the bugs worked out and I am planning at some point to run a few other mods if I am happy with the way the car continues to run. But my question is how should a 175 WHP NA KA run? Should it be able to keep up with a NA Z32? About what time and trap speed should it run in the 1/4 mile for those who have been able to find out? I would honestly like to see this car around 14.5 seconds in the 1/4, does anyone think that that is possible? All comments are welcome, at some point I'll post some pictures up if I remember! Thanks!

Mark

Well it seems that no one has a response for my question so I'll just keep posting my results and see if anyone has had a similar experience! I drove both of my s13s again (modified and stock) and the difference is so huge its just incredible! I'll try to compare the S13 to my Z32 as soon as as I get a chance and post the results. Has anyone gotten their NA S13 into the 14 second range? If so what HP and what mods were you running? I'll keep driving and see if I can figure some more out!

You will need around 200rwhp to get into the high 14s, the fastest Ive ran so far was a 15.8 in my s14 that had about 160rwhp with no lsd. Only one way to find out, take your car to the track.

You can make 170whp with Intake, header, 3inch Exhaust, cams, ECU, a good clutch, lighter wheels/tires, and maybe even a good flywheel.

Expect low 15's high 14's if you are a average to good driver.
