A block away from work the car just died, would only start with the gas pedal down. Once the pedal is released it just dies. If you keep the rpms up it runs ok. I raised the idle to keep it running til I can fix it. Trying to get a couple of ideas about whats wrong before I start spending $$$$ on it. Appreciate the help. Thanks

Any CEL? Kind of sounds like an idle air control valve...

What's the location of the idle air contrl valve? After replacing both cv axles I guess I was tired and couldn't find it.

What year is your I30? For my 2001 I30, IACV is located and attached to Throttle Body(TB). You should be able to see it after removing the portion of Intake Air Duct attached to TB. Search the forum for more info. You can also do 'advance search' in Google.com for this specific site.

Is there any way to test the IACV to determine if its bad before I buy one, I dont think I can return it after purchase.

Below is the 'cut n paste' of a post resulted from a search regarding this issue. Again, not knowing the YEAR of your vehicle, the link is for 2001. At least it will show you how to diagnose the unit starting page 433.

Check this out , it should answer your questions

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/maxima/2001/
go to EC.pdf--->then go to page 429. The removal steps are further down (around page 435)

Just when I thought everything was ok, NOT. I replaced the IACV, put everthing back together and it started right up. I let it warm up and readjusted the idle. Drove it for a short time and everything seemed fine. Put it in the garage and the next morning a=same problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.
