I just bought a 1990 Nisan 240sx. When i brought the car home it idled hard for a second then purred beautifully. I parked it, and put a new battery in it so i could go out and crank it every now and again till i could get the windshield fixed, and tags and insurance on it. Well here's the problem, i went and did everything i had to do to get it legal, and when i went to crank it up to take it to get it inspected it started up, idled really hard then cut off, then it wouldn't crank up again, all it would do is click. Well i replaced the battery terminals because i figured i wasn't getting a good enough connection to the battery. Now the car starts fine, but still idles hard, and when put in first gear and given gas it bogs down and cuts off. Also come to find out the people that i bought it from confused a can of diesel with gas and put that in the tank, it was only about 2 gallons. Now i don't know if that has anything to do with it cutting off but like i said before when i moved it from their house to mine it ran beautifully. Also when i turn the ignition to on, with the motor not started, none of my electronics inside the car work, and when i start the car i have to rev it up to about 2000 rpms before any of the electronics come on. I have no idea why its doing that.

Can anybody give me any suggestions on what to do about these problems? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

try getting all of the fuel out of your tank and putting gasoline in it. not hard in an s13, just remove the plate that's under the carpet in the hatch, unhook the lines and connectors and remove fuel pump. I have no idea what running diesel in a gas motor will do, that's why the diesel pumps use a larger diameter outlet at the pump. wow, they must have really been thinking when they done that.

I fixed the problem, what had happened was my spark plugs were covered in oil, dirt, and diesel. I pulled them out cleaned them with a little sand paper, made sure they were gaped right, then put them back in. I poured two bottles of fuel injector cleaner in the tank with a full tank of gas, and started the car up and let it run to burn out the diesel. Then pulled the spark plugs again and repeated the previous process. Started the car again and let it run to blow out the carbon that was in the car from where it had been sitting. I completely replaced the spark plugs and now it starts up and idles fine .

Now all i gotta do is figure out the electrical problem LOL
